Extinction of Rectal Thermometers and Rectal temp taking

As time goes on fewer and fewer men and women will ever experience the pleasure of RT taking and what I turn on it is to look at a pear-shaped RT. To my knowledge taking RT is a rarity today now that there are ear and digital thermometers.

If one is born after the 1990's - i think- they might never have had a RT taken and will not get turned on by the thought of a young lady sticking a RT up there butt and loving it. When I was a kid I used to look in medicine cabinets in others' homes to see if there was a rectal thermometer in there. I was overjoyed and turned on if I found one. Likewise, I worked in a pharmacy on Saturday mornings cleaning before opening. There was a shelf where the thermometers were and I used to love to open the boxes and take a look a beautiful pear-shaped RT. Let us hope that going forward there will be those men and women who at least enjoy anal stimulation and kinky sex. On a final note I use to buy dozens of pear-shaped RT. Now it to find one.

I agree. In the next 50 years, there will probably be only a handful of people left who will be aware of rectal temps. Future generations will probably gasp when they hear that there ever was such a “barbaric” practice.

Agreed. Just think what they will. be missing.

My wife was an ER nurse for almost ten years and she took a bunch of rectal Temps, she doesn't do them now because she works for a university health plan. But I know in pediatrics they are still pretty common. My mom is a pediatric nurse practitioner and the public health clinic she worked at has a mandate that all kids four and under got rectal Temps on sick visits. Finally I know in geratics rectal Temps are pretty common as well because greater accuracy is required in older patients. Even some of our friends who are parents and we are in our 30s have rectal thermometers at home for the kids. I agree that they are not as wide spread as they used to be but I still think they happen quite often. If you look on YouTube or TikTok you can find plenty of videos of people in their 20s and 30s talking about rectal Temps.

A few points!

- I think that in Europe, at least in France, there was no distinction between oral and rectal thermometers - the same models were sold for oral, rectal or axillary use!

- The common case now is, if using a thermometer meant for insertion (as opposed to some infrared gun), to use an electronic one, but Geratherm and possibly other brands still sell glass thermometers.

- Keep in mind that electronic thermometers with a tip (for oral or rectal use, or also axillary use) are quite cheaper than infrared ones.

- Rectal temperature is, I think, considered old-fashioned in France but still widely used.

the lady comments, when seeing an electronic thermometer with a tip that it's an "ass thermometer" and says to the viewers "who wants me to take his/her temperature??". Apparently, to her, if it's not infrared and has a tip, it obviously goes in the behind (not the mouth)!

Seems like both men and women are into shoving things up their butts these days. Don't get why a small thermometer is such a big deal, much more precise than any other type of thermometer. It is still used when heat related illness is suspected, marathons and sports training etc.

I remember a few years back I was talking to one of my wife's friends who had been a pediatric ER nurse for about 15 years. I half jokingly asked her if she had done a lot of rectal temps in her time there and she said yeah, probably thousands, on everyone from newborns to teenagers. I left it at that and we started talking about other stuff but man I was pretty surprised with that information. I think she worked in the ER from early 90s to mid 2000s so that seems to make sense.
