What do men think about circumcision?

If necessary, circumcision should take place as soon as possible, preferably before puberty.

The boy should not co-decide. … Convincing the boy only increases his anxiety. It prolongs the waiting for the procedure. From stories, I know it was better when parents informed the boy that he would be circumcised and it was not open for discussion. It's like no one discusses with a child whether they want to get a shot.

I have to disagree on the codecision part, but only because my view on it is slightly different.

I think circumcision should be considered routine prior to puberty but I don't agree with doing it at birth. Rather, it should be done somewhere between nine and twelve years old and should be considered a cultural rite of passage of sorts — something like Tuli in the Phillipines but actual circumcision rather than the dorsal slit they do (and with proper pain management).

Boys should be taught about and exposed to the procedure from a young age to ease anxiety over time and it should be treated as part of his transition from boyhood to manhood—something to look forward to in spite of any fears one may have. While it should be clear that the procedure itself is not optional, the boy may have some say in when it is done and should be given strong input into what he wants the results to be (high vs low cut, how tight or loose, prominent scar or minimal scarring—all things that can be controlled by what method or device is used).

I think it's heinous and unnecessary genital mutilation. There's a reason the vast majority of the globe DOESN'T DO IT.

Its completely medically bankrupt and goes against the hypocratic oath of "do no harm."

"Oh but STDs and cleanliness," you say. Cutting off your hands would also keep you from having to wash them and would also remove a common disease vector, but no one would recommend that. As an uncircumsized male, it's incredibly easy to stay hygienic and anyone spouting a "cleanliness" angle when it comes to circumcision has no idea what they're talking about. Same with STDs.

At the very, very least, leave it up to the boy to decide if they'd like to have it done. It's the lack of any type of consent that really grinds my gears.

And I get why more circumcised men seem okay with it than not. It's not worth going through life gnashing your teeth at something done to you before you could remember anything. It's all they've also ever known, and have no frame of reference for what it's like to be uncircumcised. That said, I do take issue when they use their own circumcision as a justification for circumcision their son.

Note: NONE of this is in regards to medically necessary circumcision due to phimosis, but rather the common practice of removing the foreskin at birth.

I got circumcised at 51, which was 2 years ago. I don't regret it at all. I've always wanted to be circumcised since I was 12 years old. So it was a choice. A small medical issue reinforced that choice. I'm very happy today to be circumcised.

I'm just really glad it was never done to me.

@Amethyst 😃

I am very happy with my circumcision. I had it done in my twenties, and now I am in my forties. I had phimosis, and the foreskin stretching recommended by the first doctor didn't help. I gathered the courage to ask the next doctor to perform a circumcision. Sex and masturbation are much better now.

Not s fan, had to have mine corrected (from birth) in my 40s as it was too aggressive and the shaft skin was detached.

I'm of the opinion if it wasn't broken, it was not, fixing it was not required. Leave the interventional medical procedures for when there is a problem to fix. Feel my gen 60's were born into a cut happy philosophy here in the USA.

I was circumcised. Would prefer not to be.

Over the years I've grown to find the various procedures and methods to be fascinating. Even if admittedly I'm not quite thrilled with how my mom sprung my own circumcision on me as a surprise.

I myself got snipped when I was 8yo following my parents divorce so I got to experience the early years with a foreskin before my mom had that corrected.

Of course I wasn't informed of anything mom only telling me I'd been scheduled for a 'routine' physical exam, when in reality she'd scheduled me for a circumcision without telling me what I was in for.

I ended up arriving at the clinic with my foreskin and leaving the clinic sans my foreskin permanently changed. Since my own encounter with the procedure I developed an interest in all of the different ways to remove a foreskin and actively looked for people with similar experiences to my own to share experiences and see how things could have been had my own procedure played out differently.

Totally against it, same as any other procedure done on kis solely for aesthetic purposes. The origins of it are purely religious and are then disguised as medical. If a guy needs it removed for a medical reason he can get it done in due time.In Europe, only a very small percentage of men are circumcised.

For me it was usually very funny when having sex with an american, they would say that they have never seen one like that, so I took my time in teaching them how to handle it....

I'm scared of the needle for the penile block. But I like the topic especially the female view on it.

But I like the topic especially the female view on it.

I tremendously enjoy reading, hearing, and finding out what women think about circumcision too. At least here in the US, it is a topic that sits at the edge of taboo and because it involves sex, everyone has some input on it.

Myself, I'm circumcised from birth and I don't think about circumcision much at all.

A big nope. No matter how many would be cut that skin keeps coming back the same way for the next generations.

Same for females, sick idea.

I am very happy that I am circumcised. I have a very pretty dick and love the way it looks. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Yesterday I had a colonic by a new and very charming lady. In preparation for my treatment she spent an hour carrying out a pretty intense health and lifestyle review. She asked me if I had been circumcised. The answer was obviously "YES" and then I said "I think it looks so much nicer". She smiled and responded "and so much cleaner".

In my country they only Recommende doing a circumsion to treat conditions like phimosis (a tight foreskin that cannot be pulled back), chronic urinary tract infections (UTIs), balanitis (inflammation of the glans), or scarring. It is against law to perform a circumsiom.

@cherno Which country is this?

@Thursdays_child I wonder why such a detailed questionnaire, including about genitals, for a colonic!
