Annual urologist visit

I had my annual checkup today at my male urologist. The staff was cheerful as usual. I was escorted back to the exam room by an attractive young nurse who took my weight and blood pressure, then sent me to the attached restroom to provide a urine sample.

The doctor then came in, told me my PSA and urine were good , did I have any issues? I replied everything was working properly. He started to put on a glove, grabbed the lube from the counter and said "Great. I'll check your prostate and you are out of here." I dropped my jeans, bent over the table, holding my shirt up out of the way. He spread my cheeks as he always does, then firmly inserted his finger all the way in. He usually is done quickly but took a few extra seconds today.

He withdrew his finger, said the prostate feels ok, and said he would see me in a year.

@Russianbare Just curious, do you go for annual checkups at a urologist just as a preventative caution, or do you have an issue you need to see him for specifically? It sounds like this wasn't your first checkup with him. What was the initial reason you went to a urologist?

I'd like to know too. I've never been to one.

@Russianbare I go to the urologist annually as well. I've had issues urinating so the urologist has me come back for a prostate check every year

Visits to the Urologist have been quite common since my 1st kidney stone at age 40. I do go annually and am checked anally, in addition to other procedures that involve my urinary tract (penis etc.).

I have posted elsewhere in threads dealing with such things as Transrectal Ultrasound, Cystoscopy, and Voiding Urogram. A bladder enema (irrigation) is quite a trip!

@BenDover you are correct; it was not my first time there. I had a problem in 2017 where I had issues with urination. By the time I got an appointment the symptoms were beginning to subside. I'm glad because he was going to do a cystoscopy and I didn't really want to experience that. He suggested (of course ) that I get yearly follow ups of PSA test and prostate check. I have been going for several years, and luckily have not had a recurrence. What the hell... Insurance pays for it, and I keep hoping that a female intern will walk in the door with him someday!

I went to my annual urology check up. I am seeing a practice with three urologists. Unfortunately my usual doctor is off sick, so I had to see one of his colleagues. This is Hönig went: first giving a urine sample in the bathroom. Then in the doctors office sit down and talk. Any problems urinating, history of cancer in the family, how often do I get up at night, can I hold urine etc. interestingly this doc didn’t ask whether I was able to achieve erections and whether I had sexual thoughts and activity, something my refusal urologist always asks. Then asked to drop my pants and to lie down on the exam table. Ultrasound of my testicles and kidneys. Liver and aortic vessel. Then turn to the side for the reactal exam with finger and then rectal ultrasound. Done. it all goes by way to fast. But he took the time to do detailed measurements of my prostate and was happy with the size, texture and softness. Afterwards blood tests. Interestingly the blood test were done after my prostate got palpated. But he was very relaxed about my PSA values from the last exams and I haven’t hear back with a negative result so far.

I always enjoy the urologist exams very much. I wish they would ask me to undress completely and I also would like to experience to bend over the table for the rectal or to kneel on the exam table.
