Do you think he/she still gets rectal?

Did anyone look in the medicine cabinet at friend's houses to see if there was a rectal thermometer?

I used to do this, especially if there was a younger sibling in the house. If there was a jar of Vaseline next to the thermometer it was a sure bet that at very least the little ones still got rectal.

I was surprised how many older kids still got rectal temperatures.

I always got an erection thinking about the kid in the other room across my lap, me taking their temperature.

I was a 50s 60s kid and 70s teen. we all had the same doctor, it was a small town. He had a policy of RT to age 13, and most parents followed the doctor's rule, so all the medicine cabinets I looked into usually had one or more rectal thermometers and vaseline jars. Also usually you could find enema bulbs or bags.

I did all the time. Most everyone kept the thermometer in the medicine cabinet. I always checked if it was rectal, and most of the time it was. I would also open the jar of Vaseline and look for the holes. I was pretty much never disappointed, but somehow I just needed to know. I guess it was satisfying that others went though the same ordeal as I.
