I've wet my pants, my shorts, and my bed more times than I can count, both as a child and as an adult. I wear diapers nearly all the time now in part because I never know when I'm going to have an accident. I have always suffered from periodic incontinence to a greater or lesser degree; nowadays, it's pretty much constant, although I don't suffer total incontinence all the time. I don't enjoy involuntarily wetting without a diaper on, and I'm not a fan of leaky diapers either. Recently I was mortified when I suddenly flooded my cloth diapers and plastic pants while out walking (no warning), and my pants and diaper leaked and pee soaked the crotch of my pants and my bum and even my pants legs. Fortunately I was close to my car, and the weather was inclement, disguising my wetting accident to some extent. But it was embarrassing and upsetting.
@Floppy puppy: I understand your consternation about having accidents, and I agree with your characterization of choosing to wet as being among other things an assertion of power and a transgressive act. Please allow me respectfully to suggest that your doing so (and I'm not sure whether you've ever purposefully wet your diapers or your clothes -- yet), or your desire to do so, is not necessarily childish, and need not precipitate disappointment. Obviously, our society enjoins post toilet-training wetting except in sanctioned areas (toilet, Port-a-Potty, outside when appropriate), and associates that behavior with immaturity or incapacity. But your assertion of dominion can be viewed as a naughty adult act, or just as a means of regaining some control over a refractory bladder, and to me need not be viewed (unless you choose to do so) as childish or as warranting disappointment or opprobrium. I hope you do enjoy your diapers (as your profile guiltily reveals -- no need for guilt or disappointment), and I hope you do sometime intentionally wet your clothes in a safe, private environment to see how it feels and to draw comfort either from engaging intentionally in that wetting or from getting all clean and dry again. First karma point for you.
@Thumper: Really sorry to read about the very early and quite harsh toilet training. Mine was brutal, featuring physical and emotional abuse that left lifelong scars. The irony was that all the abuse led to medical, organically caused enuresis (involuntary wetting) and encopresis (involuntary soiling) that lasted until I went off to college at sixteen, when at last I began to become somewhat continent. However, I have never been fully continent, and I never will be. Sorry you were berated and beaten. I know that all too well. You have all my empathy. Glad you wear your diapers 'n' pants and don't worry anymore. Good for you. Karma point and thumbs-up from a fellow wetter who just can't help it and who understands. Kind regards and glad tidings.
