Physical Exam Question For Men With Foreskin

My pediatrician would retract mine for me from the earliest exam I could remember five years old for my back to school exam until I was 15 years old. Then I changed doctors and that doctor retracted it as well. At 17 i changed doctors again and this doctor asked me to retract it at my exams.

Whenever I have had a complete genital exam (getting less frequent) the doctor is the one who has always retracted the foreskin.

In my exams at school, I can remember being asked to retract it myself once, but most times the doc would say something like "as you're uncircumcised, I'm going to roll your foreskin down to have a peek underneath".

I had my foreskin retracted during all school exams, every development follow-up exam and also during military services exams.

If you think back about it, you start wondering why a foreskin is something that important that is has to be pulled back at least as far as it can go.

I don't see it as medically that important as in a lot of cases it is cut away without hesitation, but when you have it, it seems they want to see what's hiding

underneath. Strange :-D

I had a lot of urologists cause of pelvic pain, most of them were female, my current doc is also female, very young after getting her doctor title. she or they all always pulled the foreskin back by theirselves. nobody asked me to do it by myself. but to put it back, i always had to do it.

My foeskin got always retracted by doctor.

As an adult, it's rarely even examined by the regular doctors anymore, but I've had a fair number of issues that require a urologist. In those cases he pulled it back every time.

I don’t have my foreskin any more but, when I did (including in the lead up to when I lost it), it was always the doctor who did the retracting.

For the people from the UK, when would an examination of the foreskin happen? Ive never heard of it, I grew up in the 70s and 80s never heard of any medical practitioner doing it for any reason.

I had recurrent infections under my foreskin which just didn’t clear up with steroid creams etc. It wasn’t very pleasant and I now think it was probably diabetes-related as I was diagnosed some years later.

During exams at school aged 14 and 16 the Dr always pulled it back straight after feeling both my balls. I had a military medical where we were lined up and the Dr moved down the line. The Orderly instructed those not circumcised to ‘pull back the skin’ before the Dr approached. I think once he saw it was back OK that was good enough because he never touched it only the balls.

I underwent circumcision as an adult. Prior to that, I had two foreskin examinations, and on both occasions, the doctor retracted the foreskin—once it was a male doctor, and the other time a female doctor.

I have been into this ever since overhearing the school doctor telling someone to pull his foreskin back. I am cut very loose myself, so I have some extra skin, but nothing that needs to be retracted.

@Yorkieuk

I was in the UK military (Army) and never had a group physical it was always one to one with an MO (Medical Officer) I was in mid 80s to early 90s never had my member inspected or even viewed, nor was I ever screened for a hernia, just examination of the chest and auscultation, eyes and hearing. I think it’s usually based on any medical history or injuries.

My doctor retracts it himself

...well, during my annual check-up, the doctor pulls back the foreskin and examines the glans... it doesn't bother me; I actually prefer it that way.

My pediatrician retracted my foreskin until i was 10, then asked me to do that in front of him and my mother

In all my genital exams the doctor palpated the penis. When reaching the tip they retracted the foreskin to examine it and uncover the glans and frenulum for inspection.

I had my foreskin retracted by the doctor when I was from 6 to 8 years old and then again when I was seen by a company doctor when I was 25.

@UKTom75 Diabetes leading to sugary blood leading to yeast infections?

Is this why you eventually opted to be circumcised?

General exams do not include genitalia for adults, unless concern is expressed.

Pediatricians would check, and manually retract the skin to check for phymosis, frenulum anomalies, morphology and meatus. They would also palpate the scrotum and check your billiard balls 😃.

I think for adults, it is expected one can check themselves and have an appointment if concerned. I mean, you DO check your balls in the shower, don't you?

Women go to a yearly screening, but statistically breasts and the complex female reproductive apparatus causes many times the issues men have.

Frankly I am happy my doc doesn't get that close to my dick. I find it awkward. And so do them. Plus, new "15 min" care slots only allow for the basics.
