Rectal temp at the same time, with another person.

I tried to search and don't think this topic has been done before!

As a kid on a number of occasions, when sick mom took both my brother's and my Rectal temperature in the same room at the same time. I'm not saying one after another, but both at the same time using two thermometers. Has this happened to anyone else?

Yes, this did happen to me and my twin brother at the doctor’s office but never at home. We would be face to face getting rectal temps on the exam table when we were really young, maybe like 4 or 5. I have always wondered why my mom only had one fever thermometer in our household especially since me and my siblings were usually sick at the same time.

Yes one of my cousins and i got a rectal temp at the same time when we were visiting over my grandmas house and we both got ill with some kind of a sickness .

My cousin, Tara, moved in to live with us after my aunt and uncle were killed in a car crash. For about 2 years, she shared my room after her own twin bed was added to mine. We always had rectal temps taken and we could easily look across our now shared bedroom. It was really embarrassing for me because I was 6 years older than my cousin. This thread made me remind me of a memory of my youth.

Growing up, quite a few times, with my cousin or 1 of 3 different friends. We would be examined together. Some nurses would take your temperature one at a time, but the standard practice was to have people lying on the table in different directions. The nurse would get another rectal thermometer from a different room. We would then get our temperatures taken simultaneously, usually with the nurse holding both in place.

At age 4 or 5 this happened to my brother and me during a sick visit to the doctor. But we had our heads at the same end of the exam table, not head-toe. This was the only time I recall having our temps done at the same time at the doctor. As I stated we did get them taken many times while sick at home at the same time.

Not when I was growing up, but later on, my girlfriend and I would lay in bed, with me taking her temp., and her reciprocating, at the same time. Our rectal temps were always normal.

I also recall once or twice my male friend and I as kids, when we had alone time put thermometers in our butts and lay on his or my bed and talked with our temps being taken. My brother was never part of my friends and my games he was not into it so we usually wanted to be sure he was not around either. He tended to be somewhat of a rat. He was into junior basketball and we could usually find the alone time when mom took him to one of his games.

This happened many times at my pediatrician’s office. It happened with me a few times. The way they did it was to have both patients lying on the table face down in opposite directions. Otherwise, both wouldn’t have fit. Another thermometer was retrieved from another room and the nurse would take both temperatures simultaneously. It all worked out so well, as the nurse also had her back to me, holding both thermometers in both girl’s rectums, and both of them were looking straight ahead, not realizing I was watching them. I stayed there for about a minute taking it all in, but left before I was discovered. It has been decades since then, but I will never get that image out of my mind.

I always laugh when it comes to rectal thermometers. That is all we had when I was growing up. I don't ever recall my sister and I having it done at the same time. She is two years older than me. Mom would have her hold it in me while she went to the kitchen and continued cooking. Of course, she set the timer. I would always push it out and my sister would push it back in and we would laugh until we heard the timer then we had to get serious. I remember my sister's girlfriend feeling sick while we were staying in the guest house at mom and dads. She felt hot so I went to mom and dads house and got the thermometer. I was washing dishes and cooking so I handed it to her. My sister was in the bathroom. I heard my sister yell no. I turned around and her girlfriend had it in her mouth. We told her it was a rectal thermometer. The look on her face was priceless. She was gagging. Then we told her that it was only ever used on my sister and me. She stopped gagging and put it back in her mouth. Of course, it had been cleaned before. I have taken my sisters and hers at the same time before in this house.

It happened with my cousin when we had to have a physical exam. That said, the more arousing aspect for me has been to overhear the nurse or doctor directing the patient to prepare for a rectal temp while I was out of sight of the temp taking. To me becoming aware of what was taking place in the exam room was more arousing than being present to observe. When that was the issue, I was far to nervous and bashful. Yet when being slightly removed from the scene, the sensations that took over varied and the longer I had to wait to go into the room, the more aroused and anxious I became.

The psychology of waiting and knowing it's going to happen to you was far more powerful. I wonder how true this is for others?

Happened several times. When my bro and/or I was ill, our parents checked our both temperatures. One of us was checked with an electronic thermometer, the other one got the glass thermometer in. For some reason esp of equality when my brother was ill and should be measured I asked my parents if they could check ma temp, too, and they did. At the pediatrician the nurse checked our vitals in rotation: one of us should lay on the belly with the thermometer in the bum and wait for registering the temperature while the other one was checked in height, weight and pulse, then came the switch.

When I visited my family in Turkey I remember some situations as well when I and my cousins were RT checked at same time with different thermometers, it was no big deal and something normal for me

When I was little, I was in the hospital a number of times and was in a ward with probably 6 other kids. Before bed, the nurse would come in and have everybody roll over. She woul put thermometers in all the upturned butts at the same time, then go back ti thev1st kid and di vitals one at a time. She would ask if you had a BM that day. You didn't want to say no to that question.

I don't recall ever having my temperature taken rectally with someone else, but I'm pretty sure it happened while I was hospitalized with Asiatic flu at the age of three.

I vaguely recall having my rectal temp. taken at my grandparents' home when I was a kid and was ill, then the thermometer wiped off, shaken down, re-lubricated with Vaseline and put into my younger cousin's bum who was on another bed in the same bedroom.

Yes, a number of times my brother, sister & I all got ours taken together at the doctors office. At home, my brother & I got ours taken together once.

As a young child (around 6), I was having my tonsils removed, and all of the kids who were scheduled for that were in one large pre-op room. Myself and a girl were the two youngest kids. The older kids were in regular beds in a semi-circle. The girl and I were both out in big crib beds, which our parents pushed together so we could trade toys and little books. At one point, the nurse announced that we would all be having our temperature taken, “starting with the babies”. I hadn’t noticed any babies, and was looking around to see where they were. Our parents understood immediately, though, and simultaneously pulled down our pj bottoms for the nurse, who inserted a thermometer in both of our bottoms (in full view of the older kids) side by side. I was more upset about being called a baby than getting my temperature taken.
