What is the best razor for men to use shaving their body and pubic hair?

OK, I know, men shaving more than their beards is no longer considered kinky, but I saw no other forum that fit the topic, so here it is.

Query: what do you think is the best razor for men to use shaving their body and pubic hair? Best means closest without skin irritation or nicks, especially when shaving daily.

Just about anything works on my arms and legs, but torso, genitalia, butt crack and underarms are a bit tricky due to the multiple directions the hair there grows. Also, the ball sack can be dicey - and dicing it is NOT what I want. 🙄

Currently I use the Gillette Profusion 5-blade cartridges. They really do shave closer, but they also wear faster. I've tried several razors designed for women who shave legs and underarms, but they don't shave my problem areas all the well - they don't get as close as my men's beard razor.

Help will be appreciated.

I like Venus razors. A nice hot soak in the tub, lots of shaving cream and a new Venus will get you nice and smooth all over

My preference is for various Gillette razors, and I've tried many since I began shaving my body some 30 years ago. Multi-blade razors clog up, and are difficult to free up if you wait too long between shaves. I'm very hairy. In recent years I've turned to using electric personal groomers, of which there are many now available.

Use a razor with only one blade to get you smooth. To main it use a Gillette 5 blade razor daily or every other day to maintain it. It’s a closer shave and will have you smoother

Best I ever used was the “Crop Shaver” by Manscaped, but I don't recommend it. Production quality was so poor that the razor cartridges would frequently detach from the handle during the shave, making it useless. The quality of the shave was excellent, but it was very expensive and undependable.

Right now, I'm using the Gillette Skinguard multi-blade razor. Produces a very smooth result and price is reasonable. I've been shaving my genitals for a very long time and never have nicks or cuts from this razor.

I have two thoughts on this issue.

First when shaving I have found it best to do in the shower while my body is being drenched with hot water and then apply the shaving cream. The hot water does make your skin more receptive to shaving. As far as razors go, use a high-quality razor and there are many to choose from. Absolutely do not use cheap razors because their blades are not sharp even when brand new. I also like Nivea shave cream when I shave my face, so use a high-quality shaving cream, which does make a big difference in the smoothness you get from shaving.

Second point. I had been shaving my pubic area for many years- leaving some hair then finally shaving all the pubic hair right down to my ass crack. My results were not good. Shaving my pubic area did cause irritation and red bumps. It looked and felt offal with the nubs that grew back in a day or two. So I decided to have laser hair removal not just on my pubic area but entire body from the neck down. I have always thought a swimmer's body was super sexy and I had grown tired of shaving not just my pubic area but chest too, which would produce a stubble in a couple of days. My goal was to have smooth healthy skin without hair. In the beginning I thought I might be embarrassed to be seen without pubic hair in the gym locker room, but that feeling quickly disappeared when the hair was removed. I can honestly say I have never missed having any body hair.

Now here is the most important point. Laser hair removal has become affordable due to the improvement of the lasers. What you spend on razors or waxing will be more than laser treatment in the long run. Once the hair is gone, it is gone forever, and you don't have to deal with it anymore and you are left with smooth healthy skin.

Being super hairy, and with spring approaching, I've begun shaving my body again. I use my rechargeable body groomer… I'm so hairy I only have the patience to do one area at a time; waiting a few days before doing the next. While the groomer really cuts through my 3" hair; nothing gets things as smooth as a blade razor.

I use either shaving soap or a mild bar soap for shaving my face and other areas. Even the mildest bar soaps will dry out my face as well as the rest of my skin, but shaving soap is designed for the activity and does not dry out my skin. Shaving soap is also so much less expensive than shaving creams or gels because one can get as much as 3-5 times the number of shaves from a bar than cream in a can or gel from a tube. One of my favorite brands is Van Der Hagen Deluxe Shave Soap and runs less than $3.00/bar and I get well over 100 face shaves, where a can of cream/foam can cost over $9.00/can and is spent after 50 or so face shaves.

I use Nair to get it all off. but be careful. it can screw up your whole day and a couple more on top of that….

I used them when they first came out in the 1990's, or so. There was only one Venus style then. But then I switched to another style (not a Venus) that has a curved wide flat handle that was very easy to use. Wow, now looks like the Venus styles have taken over with so many variations; confusing 😕.

I use a Phillips Norelco OneBlade electric trimmer. The head is small enough to get into all the cracks. Closest trim is without one of the plastic guards, but the thinnest one prevents most nicks on the scrotum. One charge lasts a LONG time, too.

I used to use the cheap, disposable razors, but now I just use my ladies Venus. She always leaves it on a shelf in the shower and I used it once, years ago, when I forgot to grab one of mine. I'm not hairy at all, so a few quick passes around the lower unit and I'm clean as a whistle. She even suggested that I use hers anyway. It has several blades and works great!

With my rechargeable I use the thinnest plastic guard when doing around my backdoor to avoid painful nicks. Anyone who has scrotal blood blisters - even using the plastic guard, great care has to be taken.

I tried Nair several times in the past and discovered the stubble appears in 1-2 days. That's no better than shaving, and, for whatever reason, reapplication doesn't remove the stubble - a minimum hair length is required.

There is also one spot in my groin that is sensitive to the chemicals. The burning sensation is acceptable, but the area that gets burned is still painful for a week or more. 😟

Tried Nair and others… I'm too hairy for it. I see they now make a Nair for Men. Amazing, since back when I was doing it, men saving was a taboo of sorts.. Remember the Nair commercial “Who Wears Short Shorts?”

I shave my face with Harry's razors and I'm sure they would work fine in the nether regions. They are very sharp, made of German steel and priced reasonably.

Did some research and here's the razor I used to use and mentioned earlier - it's a Gillette sensor for women. The wide handle made it easy to use in the tub when reaching places behind me…

The problem I had with Harry's razors was once I retired I quit shaving every day - probably averaged about once every 3-4 days. So my automatic shipments started stacking up and I still have 4-5 boxes of replacement blades!! I had to cancel shipments and probably won't have to restart them (at a much lower rate) for a couple of years.

I still use just a cheap 3 blade razor. I guess my skin is just used to it.
