There were a few so-called ‘sex movie houses’ in my city when growing up, but I never went to one, even though they were easy enough to get into.
I did however visit a live sex show in Amsterdam in the early 1970s a few times. It all looked real enough and being young and not very experienced at all, the act fooled me and my companions well enough.
But the venue, while dark and sparsely lit like most theaters the world over, was not really dirty or sleazy and there was no jerking off that I could discern since the place was filled up. Not even a modicum of privacy to be had.
Thinking back it was sort of cute and naively charming in a way. Of course, in 1970's Amsterdam, visiting a live sex show was a sort of avant-garde activity, the thing to do to show off one's progressive stance on sexual matters.
Great times back then. It was often a bit naïve and innocently silly, but also heartfelt and essentially a charitable way of approaching things, it was all going to change for the best.
We could use more of such an attitude at present.
