Doctor spreading a guy’s urethral meatus

I’m wondering how many guys have had a real doctor or provider actually “pinch” their penis or squeeze the tip of their penis in order to expand/open their urethral meatus in a real exam?

I can only recall twice in my entire life having this occur during an actual physical exam.

The first time was probably 22-24 years ago. I was in elementary school and it was the first time I can recall being asked to expose myself to the pediatrician (other than as a toddler). I was standing in front of him and he asked me to turn my back towards him and bend over and touch my toes. When he finished checking my back for scoliosis, he asked me to turn back towards him and he said that he needed to check my testicles. I clearly remember guessing that he meant my “balls” and began to lower my shorts. I remember him leaning over and giving my Mom a smirk and said, “smart young man…”

As I pulled down my shorts to my ankles, I stood before him with my underpants fully up and with my back towards my mother, but I simply hooked the front of the white briefs underneath my testicles exposing my erect penis towards him. I remember him saying, “you and I both one of these. Don’t be embarrassed.“ He only gently picked up my fully erect penis and simply spread open the urethra very gently and then said I could pull up my pants. He then turned around and rinsed his bare hands in the sink with soap. I then pulled up my shorts. He only used two fingers on one hand for entire thing.

The second time was as an adult. I was 32 and after a brief testicular exam and hernia check, the doctor quickly said, “I’m going to check for discharge….” When he said that he barely picked up my entirely flaccid penis, lightly spread open my urethra and saw a drop of precum. He quickly dropped my penis and said, “ok. You can get fully dressed…”

Have any of you had a real doc spread open your urethral meatus during a real exam? How did you feel? Were you dripping anything?

I think this is a relatively routine part of a guy's genital exam. Particularly if they check for STDs or other infections/irritations.

I've been doing this for as long as I can remember--first time was sitting on the peepot at age four.

When I was 28 I stood up nude for my family doctor, who stretched my flaccid penis as far upward as it would go, nearly up to my navel. Everything looked distorted--my circumcision scar, what was left of my frenulum, and he pinched open the hole and muttered “Hmmmm….no STD's……no herpes,” did a couple more au naturel exams on me before having me re-robe.

I've had it done several times by urologists, but not during a regular physical. I did have an STD exam at Planned Parenthood once where the female doctor noted my precum as “discharge.” I like your story, @Patient414! 😃

I'm 81 and no one has ever spread that or even retracted my foreskin. The only std check was in the army during a routine physical. They had about 30 of us lined up facing 2 medics who instructed us to retract the foreskin if you have one and milk ‘em down. Then they started at opposite ends of the line looking closely at our penises to see if anyone had a drippy hose. Then they sent us out into the main corridor which connected the sections of the hospital, still naked for all the wives and kids of servicemen to see as we made our way to the next section. My GF the colonel’s daughter knew about that show and made every excuse she could to get her father to take her to the hospital.

Prior to being granted a marriage license many, many years ago a medical exam was required. I think they were concerned with catching VD cases before babies were in the mix. The doc had a male student in tow. Immediately following the question of military service (more likely VD carrier?) he asked me to strip in down. I wasn't clear on what he was asking and needed more clear instruction. At least he allowed me to do it myself. I soon realized he was checking me for discharge. Thankfully nothing produced, not even precum.

I was a preteen when it happened. Only once but it happened.

As a teenager, the first thing during the genital exam that the doctor did was to spread open my meatus on my fully erect penis with his thumbs.

As an adult, I had one physical at 32 where the doctor instructed me to lower my underwear for a hernia exam. He first grabbed my flaccid glans, lifted my penis and pinched open the meatus, then he dropped my penis and moved onto my testicles.

As a teen my doctor would sit me up on the table and spread the tip of my penis and would use a q tip down there. He said it helped that I was erect!

@SabsSan I don't really think it feels like much of anything when the doctor spreads the meatus. In my experience, he / she holds the glans of the penis and spreads the meatus from there. The glans is perhaps the least sensitive part of the penis.

This is a moment one tends to remember. It's been done on occasion and surely is a sensitive experience.

The Dr. Dean videos always show this being done to his patients who are either flaccid or erect. The expression on their faces says it all…..The unfortunate swabbing that follows definitely makes for a memorable occassion.

In the three examinations prior to and one after being circumcised as a boy, the doctors did pull open the meatus and inspect the inside, I would have thought it essential part of an examination,

Actually I am surprised cystoscopy is not done as often as anoscopy, both of which perhaps should be routine, but as we don't have routine medicals in GB that is a moot point,

I would very much like to have very regular thorough (play) medicals if there is a GB “doc” willing

I cannot recall ever having the done. I have had a doctor examine my circumcision cut as an adult due some irregular scarring.

@SabsSan: My glans was so sensitive I couldn't stand to have it touched. The only thing I can think of as a comparison would be the feeling when touching the skin under a torn off fingernail. I guess Bobbee must be circumcised which destroys the sensitivity due to always being exposed and rubbing against underwear. When I was 12 or 13 I discovered that when several of us guys went to visit a sick friend. Someone decided he would feel better if we gave him a hand job and we formed a line to do that. He was circumcised and when it was my turn I purposely avoided touching his glans thinking it would be sensitive like mine. He wanted his glans rubbed, the harder the better. It took a long time to make him cum compared to me when I masturbated. I got tired of mine being so sensitive in my 20s so thinking of my cut friends I figured all I needed to do was make it get used to being touched. I pulled my foreskin all the way back, dried everything off, and began gently rubbing it. After several weeks I was able to apply normal pressure when rubbing and began dry rubbing for masturbation. To answer your question, I have never had a doctor check any part of my penis. Out of curiosity I did open it myself when I was young. Even though I can handle my glans with no pain the tip is sensitive inside the opening and I can't imagine having a swab inserted in there.

In most physicals, doctor/nurse practitioner (NP), doesn't even examine the penis. However I've had several urology and regular ‘thorough’ penis exams. Examiner looks all around skin, palpates penis with fingers of two hands - base to glans. To open meatus some pinch top and bottom of glans; or two fingers of each hand behind glans and spreading meatus with thumbs. Not a real turn on as it's very brief.

I've had it done each year at my annual urology exam. The doctor usually spreads the head of my penis apart and looks for issues or discharge.

I did have this done a few years ago – had to get an STD check by one of my doctors and he spread my penis out slightly to check for any signs of infection.

He had me lower my pants and lie down on the exam table. It was the first time I had a doctor actually touch and examine my penis and it caught me off guard somewhat. After feeling, moving, and looking around a bit, he used both thumbs to gently spread my urethra and look inside. He then placed my penis on my stomach and moved on to examining my scrotum and testicles.

The second time a doctor did this was at my new patient physical with my current PCP. It was probably the most complete exam I've ever had. Half way through the physical he told me it was time for the hernia exam and had me stand and lower my pants. He sat in front of me and just looked for what felt like an eternity. He then began palpating my lower abdomen and entire groin area, separating my pubic hair just looking and feeling. Once again I was surprised to have a doctor looking and touching me down there. Usually the doctor just dives right in, shoving a finger up into my inquinal canal and having me cough. Next, he used both hands to look at and examine my penis, including gently squeezing the tip to look in my meatus. He then finished up with a scrotal and testicular exam, hernia exam, and finally a prostate exam. That initial exam was the only time he has examined my penis. The next year, he only did a hernia and prostate exam. My third exam with him, he didn't even have me drop my pants. I'll let you know soon what my fourth annual physical with him entails.

On both occasions, I could barely feel the doctor examine my penis or look inside my urethra. The doctor was always very gentle during the exam. It was not nearly as sensitive as I was expecting.

The physicals I had with the pediatrician I saw from ages 11 through 18 always included an identical examination of the genitalia. I was always stripped down to my white briefs and the final step in the exam involved the briefs coming down to upper thigh level to completely expose the penis and scrotum. his first move was to pick up the penis in both hands while positioning one thumb on either side of the meatus and spreading it. He would then drop the penis and move on to the palpation of each testicle. Disappointingly, I have only had a few adult exams which included spreading of the meatus. I think this simple maneuver makes me feel that I have been inspected more thoroughly than when the doctor just examines the testes without touching the penis.

It was my GP who spread my meatus, during a check of my genitals. After pulling my foreskin back, he noticed that the area around the meatus was a bit irritated or red. He asked me first if it was irritated and if it could be blood, I told him it was not. After that he squeezed the glans between two fingers, so the meatus opened a bit. He also did it in the other direction, turning his fingers 90 degrees.

Thank you for the detailed description of this exam which, I am hoping, you found embarrassing I really appreciate the fact that the doctor spent some time just visually inspecting the genitalia it would be incredibly interesting to me to hear him explain what he was looking for and what his assessment revealed to him. I am also pleased that he looked through your pubic hair. I have seen this maneuver in educational videos but have never experienced it. I love the palpation of the penile shaft and wonder whether you found, as I did the one time I experienced this in a real exam, that it added a lot to the feeling of being inspected and judged?

Anytime and everytime that I have to actually expose myself is the pinnacle for embarrassment. For me, just walking in the door to my doctor's office is embarrassing. I know it's all in my head, but as I'm talking to the nurse I'm imagining her picturing me going through the exam and all the embarrassing experiences that await me. As I am leaving the office and look the nurse and receptionist in the eyes to say goodbye, it's a really surreal and embarrassing feeling knowing that they know exactly what you just experienced moments ago. In fact, there's a good chance they even heard my exam. Even if I'm not there for a physical, I'm either thinking back or looking forward to times I was, or will be, exposed, examined, poked and prodded.

Yes, I've experienced this several times, while being examined at the STI clinic. With my foreskin retracted, the doctor has parted by meatus and peered inside with his torch. Usually, this precedes him inserting the swab!

@ChrisExam Interesting - did they say what they were looking for with the torch? At a GUM clinic I've only had a swab put up my urethra (and presumably an external visual exam, in addition to the swab up my backside!). I don't remember having my meatus spread or anything, but then I wasn't symptomatic, it was just a routine test, and my memory of the exam is also a bit poor.
