Years back, when I worked for the federal government , I was periodically seen at employee health for various reasons/ appointments.
One nurse I knew had an appointment with me. When I went into her office/ exam room; there in the open was either a IVAC or FILAC electronic temperature unit. It had a red topped probe attached to it. . It was adjacent to the exam table.
She didn’t take my temperature but had she, I suspect she’d have taken it orally even though it was a rectal probe. It did not have a blue topped probe though and usually such units had both. It had my attention ! All I knew was that I was not aware of anyone I knew having had their RT taken so I figured if she did she’d have gone oral. ( could be mistaken, but I digress)
Had she said she was going to or grabbed the unit, I would have said, “ Are you taking my temperature rectally? That’s a rectal probe and I don’t see a blue topped one. “
I knew her a long time and interacted with her on a number of occasions.
I can only imagine what she might have said and how things would have went.
Had it been taken and done rectally, it wouldn’t have been an issue.
