Embarrassed when purchasing suppositories and enemas

Hi guys, how are you all?

I‘d like to start a new thread today.

I’ve always felt embarrassed when asking the chemist for a suppository box or a package of fleets. This has always been my problem.

I like to play with enemas and suppositories, be it alone or with my partner, but I always feel ashamed when I find myself in front of the drug store personnel, and have to ask “Can I have a box of suppositories/enemas?”

What do you think about this situation guys?

Am I the only one who has this issue or do you also find yourself in my same position?

It's similar for me when I buy a box of suppositories. It feels quite embarrassing but I never got weird looks or questions from the pharmacists about why I need them.

If you feel really ashamed you can always order online as well.

Oh yes I remember. I had just gotten over my embarrassment, when I decided to buy some in a different country.

I happened to be in France, where I knew they had some suppositories they don't sell in my country. So I decided to walk into a pharmacy. They had shelves where you could pick your own items, so I thought it would be easy. But….the suppositories I wanted were not on the shelves! I had to use my rudimentary French language skills to ask for them.

I stood in line and waited my turn. There were three people behind me. I had to ask in my broken french for glycerin suppositories. To my relief, they were available. But…then I got the question as to how many? Now, the French number system is difficult, as I am sure even French people will agree. Like, the number 95 is pronounced as “4 twenties and 15”. So, I was struggling. Eventually the person started calling out numbers for me. 10? 25? 50? I nodded. Of course everybody in the pharmacy had now overheard me buying the largest package of glycerin suppositories.

To make matters worse, this was not something like a Fleet container. This was a BIG carton box with GLYCERIN SUPPOSITORIES all over it. And they handed it to me without a bag to carry it in. My car was parked four blocks away, so then I was walking around town with my big box…

Yes it was embarrassing, fortunately I could be certain that nobody would recognize me anyway and it was also kinda fun 😉

Not sure how “drug stores” operate in Italy in 2021. I would imagine “self checkout” to pay for purchases with cash or a Debit/Credit card exists in the European Union. Scanning the (perhaps embarrassing item) yourself should eliminate any embarrassment completely.

@12bumblebees There are countries such as France, and perhaps Italy, where it is prohibited to sell drugs, even those not requiring prescriptions, as self-service. Furthermore only pharmacies can sell drugs. Glycerin suppositories are a drug.

So in France for instance what you describe (self-service then self-checkout) would be possible for condoms, lubricating jelly, etc. in a supermarket, but not in a pharmacy.

We use self checkout exclusively. Not to avoid a clerk or worried about embarrassment. Checker lines are understaffed and take too long.

When i was much younger, starting almost 50 years ago, i used to go to nearby town to buy suppositories from one of the many chemists that were around back then , always nervous, but hoping the person on the till, usually female, would talk, but never happened.

With the advent of self checkout, the embarrassment factor has diminished but I still cringe if someone is standing along side of me when I scan a box or a Fleet. The dreaded checkout line with some teenage clerk ringing up a purchase is the worst!

Would not be a problem for me as I would simply purchase it along with a few other items. Unlike buying an enema bag back in the day, since they were sold in a large conspicuous box, suppositories are in a small package and do not stand out. On the other hand, when I bought a quart container of Dr Bronner's Castile soap I was surprised the clerk gave me a funny look.

Buying suppositories or fleets has never been embarrassing. I leave it to my sub to do the buying. If he wants to have them used on his ass…he has to purchase them.

We avoid the self checkouts to help support the employees. There is usually something that doesn't ring up as it should so there is the delay of waiting for assistance. So why not let a regular cashier do the work anyway.

I am never embarrassed buying enemas, suppositories, or even lube. Not even embarrassed buying condoms.

In my 20s yes, I was quite self conscious buying suppositories. Lol, getting a new enema bag was nearly traumatic 😥 Always thought clerks and other shoppers might suspect something. Of course the fear was not warranted, but one cannot help such things.

Now days none of it bothers me in the least. I ask a clerk where the Dulcolax suppositories are, when in an unfamiliar store. A privileg of age I guess.

@Francesco99 I think thats pretty normal especially for someone in their 20's . I remember going into the adult book store to buy my first sex toy when I was in my 20's, I was terrified but still made the purchase and got out of there as fast as I could. Actually that was also true buying condoms as a teen but anyway, all the fear and embarrassment will pass with time.

To the OP:

Why are you embarrassed to buy suppositories? Have you analyzed your feelings??

Suppose you go into a drug store and pick out a package of suppositories? What are you concerned about? What if the cute girl next door walks in and sees them on the counter.? So what? Are you embarrassed that she'll know you want something to make you poo? And if she even recognizes the package, it's more than likely she's had one or more for the exact same reason. It's not like some people never poo Everybody does. And if it were your girlfriend's mother or a neighbor lady? So what? She might offer to help you out, next time it's needed.

And, the same thing applies to laxatives, enemas, and toilet paper. They, or peeing, are just as much a part of life as eating or breathing

Not really an issue when you're a little skeleton in a wheelchair like me. No one has ever batted an eye at me buying them.

Never. I normally ask the person behind counter specifically where are the glycerin suppositories so they know I want the ones that make you poop.

@Sean thank you very much for your kind words of encouragement. It’s always been cringe for me picturing a cute girl at the counter when I’m buying enemas/suppositories. But I believe you’re right, I should change my way of thinking. At the end of the day everyone urinates and poos, so these situations shouldn’t be a taboo.

I get mine at cvs with a 40 % coupon . I just go find the jar of suppos and go to self checkout.

It doesn't bother me much . Once at rite aid i bought 2 @ 2 quart enema bags at same time the female clerk just smiled at me and then rung it up. I know she knew that the bags were for pleasure.😁

Yes, EVERYBODY, even the most glamorous pop star or the virile action hero pees and poos, usually several times a day. If you're embarrassed by the checkout girl just picture her, in your mind, sitting on the toilet, trying to do her “business” and wishing she had “help”.

And, how is buying a package of suppositories or a disposable enema different than a woman buying a box of tampons with a male clerk?

Everyone knows where the suppositories or tampons are going.

In medieval times going potty was a public event for nobility. Now it has become private, while sex has become almost public.

Who knows, you might get lucky. The counter girl might smile at you and comment “those work really well” and there's your opening.

Guess I'm not the only person to buy two bags at one time.😄 I did so decades ago at a very small drug store that had a good collection. The store was a bit out of the way and it was empty at the time, and I did not want to pass up two bags I liked, so I picked up the two and took them to the cashier. Just the two bags, nothing else. The cashier, a young gal in her early 20's, gave me an odd look and asked; “you want them both?” I said yes, but nothing more.

I wouldn't want to have to ask for suppos.I usually buy mine in quantity online to avoid that and save money. Mostly I get them through Amazon.

My experienced has been that when came to buy enema bags, etc., back in the day, women had no problem doing it. Guess they were used to buying personal hygiene items; whereas I would turn every shade of red buying enema bags - but then again, that embarrassment was exciting to experience.

I go to the drug store where I can pick them off the shelf. I know the store well enough to find them quickly. I takes the to the register And pay. The cashiers are usually to bored to take notice.

I don't worry about anything like that anymore. just read the sign. cash only or card only. simple as that. but trust me I knew that feeling back in the day. oh oh I just told on myself………..😁😁

I have a bunch of medicin on prescription and order them online and add whatever else I need, laxative or suppository.

Going to the pharmacy is a pain in the ass (pun intended) as there’s always a line of old people that each need 10-20 minutes to be informed yet again how to take their pills. I got a postoffice two blocks away.

I used to get very embarrassed buying things even though i drove miles away so i don't see anybody I know. It got easier after many years but I still felt embarrassed. There are a few situations with cashiers that made things less embarrassing. The first time I was buying a .. variety of things and the cashier (probably in her 60s and smokes too much judging by her voice) smirked and said ‘somebody’s got digestion problems'.. I was stunned but then she went on “ wait till ya older, you'll be buying the whole store out, take it from me, I know." as she laughed. That somewhat made me realize that people buy embarrassing things in these stores all the time. Cashiers dont think much of it… it just a job.

Another time there was a cute bubbly girl my age ringing me up. This was quite embarrassing and i could not make eye contact or look directly at her. She asked if i want a bag and i mumbled ‘yes’. She then exclaimed “OMG I love your shirt!” and i looked at her and realized she also was wearing pins with the same punk band. There was nobody else in line so we chatted about shows that we saw. I was reluctant to go to the same store again then figured having her as my cashier was the best option next time. She rang me up on one of my embarrassing purchases a couple weeks later. This time she got the bag ready so things could go in the second she scanned them. She was mindful of keeping it discreet. I never saw her again after this… because retail.

After that last experience I made a point to be super friendly and willing to be conversational if buying something embarrassing. When doing this, you are being remembered by them but on your terms. They will remember your friendliness before they remember what you buy… I also think that they will want to return that positive energy by keeping it confidential if you ever encounter them later in life.

Yes, it might be embarrassing, especially at your first time and when you’re young, as if someone could tell your fetish from your request. I guess it becomes some sort of a self fulfilling prophecy though, as your embarrassment can make an innocent request for suppositories and enemas a matter of sexual tastes.

As for myself, I felt that embarrassment long ago and then got over it, so now I can buy my suppositories wherever I am. And when about one year ago a clerk asked me if I wanted three boxes (there was a discount for buying that many suppositories) I even managed to joke about the offer with him… I still remember some other people in the pharmacy laughing at the little scene…

Once out of the pharmacy I felt a little bit proud of myself for that!

I went to Walgreens yesterday to buy flu medicine and a pack of Senna/Bisocadyl pills and OF COURSE that day it wasn’t possible to pay with card …. So i had go leave the goods. Was considering suppositories too, but something stopped me from put them in the basket.
