Yes i.have ,its not a strange as it sounds .
When I have gotten stuck due to mechanical failure on my powerchair ,I have had people step in out of kindness and compassion..
The backstory on this is the area I live in ,has a national school of excellence for people with intellectual disabilities both day programs and residential, so there are always people who are doctors, nurses, aides, counsilors there coming and going who are fully trained and have “mad” skills at getting people with disabilities in/out of our chairs safely without them hurting us or themselves ,diaper changing, etc etc
I don't have any intellectual problems however I am a train wreck.physically .so fortunately these selfless angels have stopped to do anything they could ,more times than I can count to help me ,be it a phone to use ,to give me a push off wet grass ,to call 911 ,or tag team colleagues to perform personal care.
Once I broke down on a winter day on a hill ,there was no way my chair would move or even.with motor releases pulled allow it to come out of gear and roll in manual mode ,so when enough of them got there, they carried me to a nearby restaurant to keep me warm as it was winter ,they helped me out of my parka ,although it takes awhile for any odor to escape ,it was pretty obvious to anybody familiar with diapers and there use ,that I had filled mine ,so they carried me to restroom and utilized my well stocked diaper bag to perform all my care and changing ,then carried me back to dining room and bought me food and drink ,making me a guest instead of a pest keeping warm and I really thank God they did that because it v took 6 hours for my wheelchair dealer to round up a loaner chair and bring b it to me . For you diaper people imagine what a Tranquility ATN turns into if worn for 8 hours ? It ain't pretty or nice .
And when I say carried me ,that ain't a small task my wheelchair empty weighs 500 pounds add my weight and “ supplies ” we are at around 675 pounds so when in a bind and someone who has the skills and knowledge to render aid and nobody gets hurt.,I will gratefully accept and thank God for the neighborhood and its people .
If an average everyday person was trying to do the same thing I would politely decline simply because I don't want them to get in over there head and hurt themselves .sure anybody could change a diaper theoretically .change an.infants diaper not a big deal changing a fully grown man who can't assist in any meaningful way ,needs to be done by people with training and experience ,there's alot of positioning and nuance ,not just muscle memory of changing an.infant.
