Was this Auscultation normal or weird?

I recently went to the doctor, and I found the auscultation really weird, can you tell me if you think it's normal?

First he had me sitting on the table, with all my clothing on, and checked my lungs (cough, breath and everything). He then asked me to lay down, and then he pressed the stethoscope on my tummy a few times, before asking me to remove my pants, to check my lower tummy. He used his hand to check this area, and then asked me to remove my shirt to check the stomach area.

After that, he told me "I'm gonna check your lungs again, now that that thick fabric isn't in the way anymore"

I found it weird cause he didn't check my heart, at any moment.

So he asked me to cough and breathe again, before telling me that he "needed me to undo my bra clasp to check a certain spot"

That's what I did, I was holding my bra on the front.

Then he finally realized that he forgot to check the heart, so he had me laying down again. He started on the neck, then on the side of my right breast, lifted the bra, listened, then asked me to lay on my left side, lifted the bra on the left, pressed the stethoscope on my breast, before asking me to completely remove it. He continued to press the stethoscope on the breast, under it, around the heart area for like 4-6 minutes. He even did palpation, but he isn't my gyno, only my generalist!!

What do you think, is that Normal?

Unless he was your play doc I think it was abnormal auscultation ! As a regular Doctor he should have asked you to undress to your waist first, listen to your lungs, heart and arteries of your neck. Then unbutton your pants to check your belly / Abdomen and feel that area, all at one time! What do you think ?

No, he isn't my play doc at all, I was just there for a check-up, and I found it really weird! I don't even know why he needed me to remove my bra, and why he did the palpation!

No I know he was not a play doc ? To have you remove your bra and palpate your chest, he was feeling your pulses and blood flow near the heart ! But what I don't understand is why examine you with all your clothes on and then have you remove them ? ????

But it was just a check-up, I never asked for a full almost 10-15 minutes long auscultation! And I didn't ask for breast palpation either!

Usually, most doctors practice auscultation over the bra, no one ever had me removing it...

Maybe he just realized that it would be better without the shirt, and maybe he really forgot about heart check... Idk

In 2021 in the US, every male doctor I am left alone with does fully clothed exams and spends 30 seconds at most auscultating over clothes total. I personally think there should be a chaperone involved when a male doctor does an exam that includes removing clothes. This has happened with multiple doctors across a few different states I have lived in.

That sounds really abnormal if you didn't have a chaperone in the room.

This is based on my experience of doctors listening to aortic and pulmonic over clothes for MAYBE 5 seconds each, and then being done. Other people I am sure have different experiences.

It was the first time. Maybe he just realized that the shirt was thicker than what he thought... Still confused about him having me removing my bra but...

I agree with you it is abnormal ! either examine you with your clothes on and be done with it ? or have you undress and have a chaperone in with you that's all !!!

I'm from France so chaperone isn't a thing.

I'm still looking for explanations, cause the whole story I told earlier took like 10-15 minutes.

And in France generalists never do palpations or bra less exams, it's the gyno's job.

Especially cause it didn't ASK for it, sometimes you can tell the doctor "I didn't get my breast checked In a while", so he can check them, but I didn't tell him anything!

If you feel uncomfortable with him as your doctor, are you allowed to switch?

What you could do is ask, "You listened for a long time. Is there something wrong with me?"

He ended up telling Everything was perfectly fine, and that I would see me in 5 to 6 months for another check up, but I'm never coming back!

Think it was almost perverse from him to ask me to take my bra of, and to do all that things!

Next time I want a check up, I won't go to someone who's gonna act like a gyno without even asking

What made me uncomfy wasn't even the time, cause he could have just wanted to be extra careful, but the bra thing really made me feel weird. He didn't need to do that

Did you have a stethoscope kink before that experience? I will suppose you have it now??

It doesn't sound like a normal exam to have a stethoscope placed on your breasts and your breasts examined as a part of a heart exam, especially without asking you or obtaining your consent.

In my opinion, this medical examination was normal and appropriate. The doctor didn't tell you to undress completely right away, because he preferred to do it so as not to shock you. If you have large breasts, the examination in a bra is not possible. Heart palpation is also part of the examination. Read about it. Everything was fine. You should be happy that the doctor examined you thoroughly.

I saw a locum Doctor at my GP about ten years ago who didn't seem to have a clue what he was doing. He was well into his 60s maybe even 70. I can't remember what I went for but he listened to my chest and heart. He was placing the stethoscope in all sorts of positions. He then had me lie down and started tapping randomly with his fingers all over my chest
