There are those who say taking enemas will lead to dependence and an inability to have regular or normal bowel function. In many of the older medical texts, enemas were the recommended, or referred to, as the safest method to trigger a BM without disrupting normal peristalsis. Laxatives/cathartics were discouraged because they disrupt the entire digestive system. Obviously, the medical field changed their perspective and now try most anything short of the good old fashioned enema. Try getting one in a hospital or clinical setting anymore.
For me personally, I have found enemas to be the most efficient and effective way to aid in controlling my digestive system and habits. I don't take laxatives/cathartics. This was the preferred method that I was raised on. Mom, and my pediatrician, were strong advocates for enemas in lieu of other methods. Mom and dad's doctor was also an advocate for enemas. I discovered that as I reached an age that had me seeing him, and Nurse Marge.
I began to self administer at a very young age. I also discovered some of those additional benefits that motivate many of us to hang out around here. I don't use them every day and have "normal" bowel function in most cases. My food/fluid intake, as well as medications, influence my bowel function. I usually return to "normal" within 12 hours after an enema cleanse. This has gone on for nearly 67 years.
I like using enemas for a variety of reasons and practical applications. I've posted about pre-emptive enemas, enemassage, and a host of more sensual or R&R related reasons. Thus far, I've not noticed or become aware of any negative aspects of my usage. That includes no indications from medical professionals aside from the more common cautions in today's perspectives.
I don't believe there is a point of no return...but then again, I've not given them up for any substantial period of time.
