- I really do not give a rat's ass who examines me.
- I do not give a crap if it is a man or a woman young or old.
I think I remember once reading in one of your 20k + posts, about a hospital employment physical in which you hoped the examiner was young & not an old fart. Of course, that wasn't in the context of your physician looking after your health.
As for me I want a doctor who actually LISTENS & doesn't impose his dictatorial health agenda on me; accepts that I don't want to live to be 90; respects that I have rationally prioritized my health agenda in the context of MY situation--which I understand better than anyone!
If I go to my PCP asking for a Z pac because of a recurrance of a throat infection that was successfully treated just 4 months prior by an ENT, I don't want to go home empty handed (save a CBC requisition,) but have to later get an augmentin prescription at an ER because the neglected throat infection spread to my inner ear & sinuses (That was my pentultmate PCP visit 11/19
If I go in asking just for heavy duty antihistamine eye drops, I shouldn't have immeduately get them at the ER that same day, because instead of the eye drops needed, I only got requisitions for redundant & unwanted tests--including a fecal sample (?) & PSA. (All cancer screening is off my radar screen, particularly colon & prostate.) This just happened again a few weeks ago. A whole visit wasted, necessitating another costly ER visit, & both paid for by Medicare!
I don't want to be condescended to, objectified, asked repeatedly "routine", irrelevant, insulting, questiins about possible substance abuse, or STDs. I want to be asked, "how can I help you?" & then proceed without getting sidetracked. I do need PCPs for referrals, but I'm not going to get competent, respectful treatment from those pompous clowns. The only thing left is to play around with them. I mean, if you can't beat them…..,
So my answer to the OP is women
On a more positive note, my rheumatologist handles the bulk of my issues & concerns--that are auto-immune. She is competent, & the first "professional" to believe my complaints about chronic dizziness & muscle fatigue. Unlike 99% of my PCPs, she doesn't even try to impose on me a DRE, after implying right to my face I'm a hypochondriac, a malingerer, or scammer.
Also, to be even handed, the ER clinic I attend when my PCPs FUCK UP is quite good too. Very respectful & attentive.
