Newbie to estim - advice?

I just picked up my TENS unit today. It's for my back, but I was thinking of using it for other things, too. Any advice?

Start on a low setting and make sure you have very good contact with your skin, especially when using it on things other thyan your back. Poor electrical contact will cause unpleasant shocking of the area and will be painful especially when using small electrodes.

EXPERIMENT to see what you like. You will probably get an idea of the type of pulsing you like soon after starting, then you just need to fine tune the power and pulse rate you like.

Make sure you have the owners manual nearby so you know how to set the device the way you like it.

You should start with low power setting and a high pulse rate which will give a buzzing sensation you will probably enjoy.

All I can tell you is that it will be shocking experience. An I agree set low to begin with. Was using one on my elbow and got carried away with the power and got it to high and when it pushed I hit myself in the face.

As @SwitchableSusie has said, start out on a low setting and work your way up. We only have a TENS unit (or two...or three) ourselves and still, every time I use it on MrsFn, I start out low and work up.

Oooooh, I didn't know you could get plugs for it. Will definitely try them if I like the unit. I'm sure I will, everyone I've talked to who has one says they like it.

Shaving is a very good idea and almost necessary for good contact and to have the adhesive pads stay on.

After you get used to the pads, you might venture into using the insertable probes!

If you have a dual channel tens unit....you can use both pads and probes.....once you find your favorite settings, probes in your orifices and pads on your erogenous areas....e stim can be a very enjoyable way to while away a few hours........or....it can be a sweet punishment if used properly.....just take your time and practice

Also don't get hung up on cabling and connectors. Just identify what kind of cable your t.e.n.s. unit uses to plug into the device and know that there are cables with 2mm tens pins, female snap connectors, or banana plugs not to mention converters to swap one for the other. They are all based on a two wire setup at the core so don't think of that as a barrier if your unit's wires don't match the electrodes you want to use. www.happystim-usa.com has a wide selection of wiring adapters.

As for electrodes, Suzie's post is a great start. PES Electro makes some nice insertables as well as Folsom. Newer to the game is also E-Stim Systems plugs like the Flo and the company Electrastim makes some great ones as well. Keep us posted on your journey!
