Anyone heard their mother receive corporal punishment?

Growing up with a very strict stepfather I was regularly received corporal punishment and so did my mom because she didn’t work and the church we attended advocated wives to submit to there husbands so every now and then I would hear him take the belt to her which he did in there bedroom with door shut but I could hear every lick he gave her and I wondered if anyone else male or female has heard there mom receiving corporal punishment?

My mother's parents came from Austria and they were very strict with my mom. She was paddled bare bottomed through nursing school by my grandparents. Most of those spankings were given with a Schnapps paddle, a wooden serving board with cutouts for 4 pewter cups. If mom wanted to wear pants, She had to wear a panty girdle underneath. So, more than once, she told me she had to take down her pants, panty girdle, and panties underneath, before going over her parents' laps!

My grandpa was a strict disciplinarian and on Sunday afternoons while the family was as gathered in the den, he would ask about how we did in school and how we had behaved during the week. If he was dissatisfied with what we reported or our parents reported he would tell us to come see him after dinner. Did your grandfather control the family finances perhaps, did he provide for living expenses? Otherwise I don't understand why any adult like your mom would submit to physical punishment. What hold did he have over your mother?

I don’t think grandpa’s hold on my mother was financial. Although she was divorced we lived comfortably. I think it was psychological. He had always dominated her as he did everyone in the family. She and her sister always submitted to his punishments and never said a word about it.

A little off topic... but I was playing with a friend in his house and we were wasting sheets of paper. My friends mom stopped us and said if her husband found out, she'd be spanked. I must have been 8 or 9 and was shocked to hear that. I thought she was just saying that.... days later when I was along with this friend I asked did his father really spank his mother - and he answered as if it was nothing unusual, "Yes, my father spanks us both"... In disbelief, I said, "Your mother actually gets spanked!?" Again, he nonchalantly answered, "yes". I would have been flabbergasted too and probably disgusted by the husband. I wouldn't have understood play-acting sex spanking, but I would certainly have thought a man actually spanking his wife as very low indeed - and someone to always stay away from.

I am almost for sure my mom was given a spanking now and then as I could occasionally hear what sounded like a spanking late at night after when I should have been fast asleep. We had floor furnace ducts and sound carried pretty well if you ear was up close to it and the furnace blower not running. My dad was a very gentle person but also was definitely head of the household. They tried to keep her spanking private. I am sure they were consensual as are my own with my husband. There was nothing like that in my house. But when I was a child, one of my schoolmates told me that it was about something like this. He said that his dad spanked his mother. He had never seen it, but he had heard the noises.

No, I only ever met my dad once and very briefly (my parents divorced only a few months after I was born) so that type of dynamic never played out and I doubt she would have tolerated or submitted to it. My grandparents still lived in Europe and I also doubt they would have spanked her as an adult. I know my mom got spanked growing up by them though. From the stories she’s told me she either got wooden spoons, hairbrushes, or a strip of a broken lawn mower belt when she was older.

My sisters and I were well aware that Mom and Dad used spanking as a method of discipline, not only for raising thier children, but also for disciplining each other when necessary.

Dad was ultimately the head of the household and made final decisions regarding family disciplinary matters. Of course, Mom would often discipline my sisters and me as needed without his participation (usually a trip over her lap for a bare-bottomed spanking with the hairbrush paddle -- a homemade paddle shaped like a large hairbrush, but no bristles). But, if she felt that Dad's more severe discipline was called for, she would make sure that we would have appointments with him in his workshop, which usually meant a bare-bottomed tanning with the homemade leather punishment strap.

When she was a naughty wife/mother, Mom also had appointments with Dad in his workshop.

But, Dad believed that it was his responsibility to make sure that every family member received the discipline that he/she deserved, so he would also submit to a good whipping with the strap when he was found to have been a naughty husband/father.

We had a very loving family, but family discipline was taken very seriously! Every member of the family knew the family rules and was aware that painful discipline would be administered to correct disobedience, disrespectfulness, dishonesty, etc.

I remember my father spanking my mother on just one occasion. I don't remember for certain what she did wrong but it may have been staying out to late with her friends.

This is interesting, I never thought about it until I read this post. But, yes, I remember a time where my dad was obviously spanking my mom. It had something to do with her going to a bar with her friend. I seem to recall it being about the involvement with other men.

I definitely heard a spanking going on, and my mom crying. My dad stopped at times and they were talking, then the spanking would resume. It ended with a prolonged spanking, until she was sobbing.

Until I read the title of this thread, I doubt I had ever even considered that such things happened and that families then stayed together.

Knowing my mother and how intense and determined she could be in certain situations, I predict that had my father ever laid a hand on her, either 'spontaneously' directly after/during an argument or finding fault for somethings or whatever, and even worse, as a planned punishment session, she would probably afterwards have gone to get the shotguns that were kept for skeet shooting, and used one on my father.

My parents had arguments galore, shouting and yelling, almost up to the day my mother died for more than 60 years long. But never once did I notice, hear or see anything at all in the way of hands-on physical violence. I'm pretty certain my father knew that was a line he'd cross at his own peril.

The thought that my mom might be physically punished by my dad was inconceivable. That is until I was at a playdate with George, the son of our church’s new minister. We would have been 6 or 7 during the time when spankings were common form of punishment and other adults had implicit permission to spank other children in their care. So it wasn’t unusual for boys to discuss how they were punished just as readily as which was their favorite superhero or Matchbox car.

I explained that I got spanked bare by both parents but sometimes mom used a paddle. George explained he and his sister were always paddled bare usually by their mom but dad paddled all of them.

His phrasing threw me and I told him he made it sound like his dad paddled his mom as well, expecting him to realize his phrasing error and have a little laugh at the idea. But he meant what he said. I had never imaged something like this ever occurred but to him it was normal.
