With a thin sound, there is a risk of perforating the urethra wall or catching a skin fold. Be very careful with sounds under 9mm. A screwdriver or pencil is too dangerous and therefore unsuitable. In addition, such unsuitable items can not be cleaned well.

THAT'S YOUR FIRST AND BIGGEST MISTAKE.

DON'T use ordinary stuff around the house.

Use things specifically designed for urethral insertions.

You sound like an amateur and amateurs should start with things like silicone sounds or catheters that will follow the curves in your anatomy and not puncture you, especially when stiff items need to be inserted to specifically follow your anatomy, while silicone items only need to be well lubricated and they will follow your anatomy even if you don't know what you are doing.

You do NOT need devices that are a minimum of 9 mm in diameter and very few men will even get that size into their urethras until they have been doing insertions for a long time. I promise you will bleed a flood if you start out trying a 9 mm diameter toy.

Flexible silicone sounds and catheters that are 5-6 mm in diameter can be used very safely as long as you don't force anything and that is a good starting point.

BE VERY WARY OF INFORMATION YOU GET AND WHO YOU GET IT FROM.

I'm WAY into urethral insertions but PLEASE do not be reckless doing it. There are specific toys and medical tools made for this purpose and that is ALL you should ever use for it - and even then, follow the advice of people who know what they are talking about. You can really hurt yourself easily or get an infection if you do not.

I've used catheters and sounds to stretch my urethra - rosebuds are my favorite since i can track their progress. However!!! DO NOT USE things from around the house! In addition to the risk of tears and perforation, infection is almost certain. Thinks like gummy worms CANNOT be sterilized - and nothing should go into a urethra that is not sterile, including the lube.

Obviously I like the sensations that sounding gives, but PLEASE be careful! If something does happen with either proper instruments or homemade toys - GO TO THE ER! It's not a joke.

I was interested in items for penile insertion. I had acquired from a retired physician, a metal 16 French catheter, of stainless steel. I tried it out, and found it easy so get into the bladder. To Sterilize I used aluminum foil for a covering and baked it in the oven. To dilate, I used knitting needles and crochet hooks. These items are sized in milimeters. The non-hook end of the crochet hook can be smoothed off with 360 to 2000 grit wet dry sandpaper. I used benzalkonium (Zepharin) to sterilize these. I didn't try to insert them far; needles are sharp and will damage urethra at the bend, and the crochet hooks short. However by and by meatus was a couple millimeters larger. For fun I made my own hard plastic catheter. I used 2 ball point pen barrels, 1 mm larger that the steel. The first I melted to form a blunt end, the carefully sanded it to match the real metal one, smoothing it to 2000 grit paper. I punched 2 eyelets with a rotary tool . At the other end I thinned the outside with the rotary tool and inserted it into the second barrel, joining the 2 with epoxy. The glue filled out the joint. I smoothed it out again. The male urethra as a bend. I stuck the completed plastic sound in a pot of boiling water. The sound sagged into a curve, matching the real metal one's curve. I sterilize it with the benzalkonium. At least 40 insertions draining urine. Never had an infection. I use sterile gloves, packet of sterile surgilube, sterile paper drapes. Before play I drink at least quart of water so I can pee several times to flush the system.

I tapered off dick insertions. I do use a Foley catheter 3-4 times a year.
