Anyone ever try to make their own sodium phosphate fleet type enemas?

I found this on the net but I'm not a chemist. - - "Each 100 mL ( 0.416 cups) of solution contains monobasic sodium phosphate 16 g and dibasic sodium phosphate 6 g in single dose disposable unit. Nonmedicinal ingredient: sodium methylhydroxybenzoate. It comes in ready-to-use, hand size plastic squeeze bottles of 130 mL, with a 5 cm prelubricated rectal tube and protective cap."

The Phosphate radical has a valence of 3. That means to form a compound you need to match it up with components that are also a valence of 3. That could be 3 Sodium atoms, which is just plain sodium Phosphate,

2 sodium atoms and 1 Hydrogen atom (dibasic Sodium Phosphate), or 1 Sodium atom and 2 Hydrogen atoms (monobasic Sodium Phosphate). Sodium forms a base, so the number of sodium atoms in each molecule determines the base status.

For the record, 45 ml or 3 Tablespoons of Fleet PhosphoSoda contained exactly the same amount of the same Sodium Phosphate products as a Fleet Enema. However with the dramatic expansion in the use of PhosphoSoda as a Bowel Prep product came its use in patients for which is really was unsuitable and unsafe.

When used in patients who were dehydrated, or did not have adequate water intake, the solubility product for Calcium Phosphate could be exceeded. That caused a precipitate (insoluble compound) to form inside the Kidney with catastrophic consequences. In less serious cases it simply lead to serious electrolyte 'derangements' also with 'bad' outcomes, but generally not catastrophic outcomes. The resultant product liability actions caused C B Fleet to withdraw the product from the market. In reality it had probably been around for 80 years or more. Every once in a while on Ebay there appears a bottle of PhosphoSoda with a cork instead of a bottle cap! The FDA recognized the relative safety and effectiveness of Sodium Phosphates as a laxative a very long time ago.

There's no reason not to, excluding the fact that you bypass the convenience factor which is often cited as the reason for using a Fleets. Sodium phosphate is available online.

You can also get a similar effect using hypertonic solutions of other salts, such as magnesium (magnesium citrate or Epsom salts) or even sodium chloride or bicarbonate. With the latter two you have to be a bit more aware of retaining the solution because it is much easier for the body to absorb NaCL or NaHCO3 than a phosphate or the magnesium compounds, so you can have hypernatremia if they stay inside too long. We're probably talking hours here.

In Asia they actually appear to sell a hypertonic sodium chloride enema, and of course the small concentrated 50% glycerin enemas which are somewhat similar in effect to the phosphate enemas.

I think it is just as easy to just use about 4 tablespoons Epsom Salts in 2 quarts. you can add 4 oz glycerin if you really want a kick in the ass. Try holding that for 5 minutes

Why would I?

Fleets and their generic equivalents are so readily available there is no reason to do that except that I could.

With what generic Fleet enemas cost, it is really not worth your trouble.

Suprep is a different issue , It's crazy expensive so it''s worth it

Interesting enough, Suprep® is made with very simple chemicals that are readily available, and frankly, cheap. It is just another example of Big Pharma ripping us off.

35 grams sodium sulfate (Glauber Salts)

6.3 grams Potassium Sulfate

3.2 grams Magnesium Sulfate (6.4 grams if using Magnesium Sulfate Heptahydrate, which is what Most Epsom Salts products are).

Each dose of Suprep is half of the above.

Sodium sulfate can be purchased on ebay for about $8 for 454 grams

Potassium Sulfate can be purchased on ebay for about $10 for 454 grams

Epsom Salts are about $2 a pound from you local drug store,

So the actual manufacturing cost of Suprep is under $1.

Another product, Ferrings's Clenpiq is sold under various names elsewhere I the world. In the US it is about $145, in Australia the same two packets are about $8 at current exchange rates, and in Canada for a small fraction of the US price.

The fleet products are a little more complex because there are actually two different sodium phosphate products in it. Monobasic and Dibasic. Monobasic is NaH2PO4, Dibasic is NA2HPO4. It isn't clear to me that there is a lot of difference in between Monobasic and Dibasic as far as effects are concerned.
