As time passed, do parents have become more or less accomodating to children who wished to wear diap

I'm from Hungary, an Eastern European country where washing machines only started to become commonplace around the mid 70s, and disposable diapers around the early-to-mid 90s.

Despite this, I've heard stories from the 80s that when a child's younger sibling was born, and the older child was envious of how the baby was diapered, parents sometimes diapered up the older child with cloth diapers and plastic pants/tie-on snibbs mostly as a joke, but they weren't angry if the older child decided to pee and poop into the diaper, and thought of it as more of a funny/cute experience and changed the older child as if he/she was a baby.

Nowadays however, Hungarian parents seem to run more of a tight ship, and although the average age of potty-training has been delayed somewhat since the 1980s, they are not as accomodating to children who desire diapers after they've mastered the toilet/potty, saying things like "I don't have time for this!" or "I don't want to literally deal with your shit any longer!"

What have you experienced of these things in your country? Have parents there became more or less tolerant of post-potty-training children who like diapers?

I do remember when we delivered our children to the pre-school classes that a lot of the helpers said how nice it was to get a child who is not in nappies as a lot of parents do not have the time to potty train their children.

Also of note are junior schools complaining about the increasing number of children still wearing nappies and in some instances the children are as old as 10 ?

A sign of the times ?

In my experience, my mother wasn’t going to stand for, or wait for myself to be “ready” for potty training. It was the early 60’s, so it was cloth diapers, and plastic panties. Mom wanted done with the extra work ASAP! I was done with daytime diapers, (not by choice), by about 2 1/2, and around 3 at night. For the most part, most moms were aligned with this time frame. Most children were out of diapers by 3 1/2 latest.

I can remember my cousin (a distant one to me), who had a daughter in the mid 70’s. I couldn’t say how much the norm it was at the time, but her daughter wore disposable diapers up to 4 1/2. She wore diapers at bedtime till that old. My other cousins (1st cousins) who range in age, were mostly out of diapers, about the same as myself. Younger ones, who wore disposables, still about the same. My youngest 1st cousin, from the early 1980’s wore diapers till about 4. But that was at bedtime.

My nice, born in the new millennium, went to about 4. She sometimes asked for a diaper, even after potty training, but that only lasted a very short time. My mom, was not happy to see her granddaughter in diapers at 4 years, much less ask for one.

I have noticed a child of about 6 or 7 living nearby who definately still wears nappies as you can clearly see a waiste band and a bulky butt !

I was watching the opening of the world cup soccer being held in Russia last week. Part of it involved a large number of kids eight to ten years old or so. I was shocked at when I noticed that probably one out of five was diapered. No doubt for the long period of time they had to spend away from bathrooms. Scenes like this just don't seem to appear in the US. It seems Europe is far less uptight about diapers. ...good for them!!

Interesting. Another difference I noticed is that in Europe (mostly in countries of Eastern Europe where the weather is pretty warm in the summer like Hungary and Romania) many people leave their toddler-aged children naked in this weather both out in the garden and in the house/apartment, and if the child starts peeing/pooping they simply hold a towel to their crotch/catch the turd nonchalantly in their hand and toss it into the toilet, using the summertime as an opportunity to teach their children about peeing/pooping as a form of early, but non-strict potty training. If the pee/poop goes onto the floor they just clean it up. I assume this was also the norm in Medieval times and probably even earlier.

I even have an early memory of my Mother showing me my poop on the floor and telling me in a calm voice that it came out of my bottom, because I had to poop but I couldn't hold it back yet. (I think I was 2 years old during this)

In contrast, American parents seem to always keep their children diapered, even in the hot climate of the Southern states.
