Heating up enemas in the microwave

I don't put the bag in the microwave but I often fill a two-quart plastic pitcher with tap water and two minutes and fifty seconds later I have 105 degrees to pour into my bag. It saves water by not having to run the water in the sink or tub several minutes until it is warm. Just doing my part to be "green" even though the water comes out brown anyway.

Ok, good if that was a joke, I was expecting rust or other deposits coming out of an old bag from heating.

In some places when your public water system is primarily fed from wells, as many small systems are, If you go away on say a family vacation, or if you are single and go on a week-long business trip you might get home and find the water running brown that first few minutes. It's just the mineral buildup in the pipe from your pipe being stagnant while the others around it are in regular use.

You should let it run a moment until it runs clear.

Just to be clear - the water from our well is some of the best in the country, with no discoloration.

However, regardless of whether I use it plain, with salt, or soap, it almost always comes out of my ass brown. That is not the fault of the water.

I have had this happen in my kitchen and the boil is powerful and eruptive. It splashed quite a bit and could easily burn someone if they don't pull their hands back quickly.

Very clean water in a very clean smooth vessel will splash one or two feet from the vessel.

She's correct. I've seen this happen too, just heating water in a quart glass measuring cup. It's a good plan to allways tap the outside of the glass with something long like a knife, which can set off the stored energy and make the sudden boil occur without your hand too near it. Even so, I always use a thick oven glove to pick it up to try to protect my hand. Another maneuver is to scrape or scratch the inside of the glas with a metal spoon or fork tines before heating too far. This will cause microscopic irregularities in the glass interior (maybe even release microscopic glass particles into the water) and give the water some places to nucleate bubbles and allow boiling rather than superheating.

No sense ruining a nice big enema with a bad burn.

It's very hard to control the temperature in the microwave.

Remember that it does not take much pressure behind the steam to quite literally blow things up. Which can be a disaster for the microwave as well as your nice bag!

Just not worth the risk.

We have two water heaters and a circulating p[ump so hot water is instantly available at every faucet in the house. Only one of the water heaters actually heats the water - but since the water circulates around the house and through both tanks, we have a good supply of hot water and both tanks are very close to the same temperature. This actually saves energy as well as water.

While I've never even thought of heating a bag in the microwave, I've found that putting a Fleet (or generic) disposable enema in the microwqve for NO MORE THAN 10 seconds warms the liquid for a more comfortable enema. It aslo avoids the shock of cold liquid injected into the rectum, and makes holding the enema longer much easier. I'm not a fan of disposables, but being able to hold them longer does make for a somewhat more thorough cleanout. When it comes to truly cleaning your colon, nothing beats a series of 2-3 qt SSE's.

What is so difficult about that?

I heat mineral oil for small volume enemas in the microwave, but it's only a few ounces. It takes about 40 seconds to warm the oil from room temperature to ~ 100 degrees, Fahrenheit on full power. The oil is heated in a glass glass then sucked out in smaller amounts in a small syringe for insertion.

I don't know about putting a bag - open or closed - made of any material, relatively full of liquid, in a microwave to heat the contents. Without adequate, and possibly messy, testing, the contents could end up out of the bag and in the microwave.

Why not use a microwave-safe container of appropriate size, heat the recipe, then pour it onto a bag?

I remember trying to reheat an enema in the bag once using the microwave. I think I had filled the closed top bag and was interrupted for some reason causing it to cool. It works, as long as there is no metal, such as the hose shutoff clamp but difficult to control the temperature.

But most times I just fill my 2 quart plastic pitcher from the cold water tap, and 2 minutes and 50 seconds later in the microwave it is 105F. Just the right amount of time to prepare the bag and lube my ass.

Yep - back in the late 1940's my parents would heat up water on the stove to dissolve Ivory Flakes and make an enema that was supper strong...

I just checked - our hot water out of the tap is 108 deg. No need to heat it up more on the stove or microwave - unless you're into burning you colon! 😈

That's all ?????? Is your thermometer accurate? Did you check it after someone filled the bath tub and used up all the hot water? Can you even get a steamy shower?

In NYC the minimum temperature that apartments have to supply to the tenants is at least 120F water. Of course in a house, you can set your water heater as low as you like. My husband set ours at 180F. We never run out of hot water even with a houseful of guests taking showers and and can run a full restaurant quality sanitizing dishwasher cycle in 15 minutes.

I just rechecked - took a longer reading at 118 deg. First reading I just held the thermometer in the stream of water coming out of the tap - second time I left the thermometer in a cup as I ran water for a minute or so. Only thermometer we have in the house is a Weber instant read digital.

Yes. I also would prefer to use filtered or distilled water for my enemas. Gallon jugs of water at the Dollar General store are relatively cheap. The hassle is that I like very warm (not hot) enemas, and the jugs are at best room temperature. I've tried using a large salad bowl to heat the water up in the microwave, but it takes a long time to heat up 2-3 quarts at a time. A one quart container heats up a bit quicker, but requires a lot of repetition and trips to the kitchen to get 4 or 5 2-3 quart enemas over a 2 to 3 hour period. Not to mention the wear and tear on the microwave. I've tried heating up the water on the stove in my large chili pot, which will hold 3-4 quarts. This was a hassle as well, as transferring hot water from a large pot to a small container, then to the enema bag over and over again is no better than the microwave. So I finally gave gave in and went back to using tap water.
