*(two-piece diapers consisting of a tie-on waterproof cover and a disposable insert)?

Have you worn them as a baby or wear them as an adult? Were they ever available in the US?

From what I read, these kind of diapers were mostly a European thing, mostly widespread in the Nordic countries from about the mid 70s to the mid 80s, as a cheaper alternative to all-in-one disposable diapers.

In Hungary, which was a Communist country until 1990, these were the only kind of disposable diapers available from about the mid 80s up to 1990, normal disposable diapers only introduced in that year. They were eventually phased out around 1996. I think they were also available in the late 80s in Poland and East Germany, though they were more expensive and not as widespread there.

I was born in 1990 in Hungary, my Mom tells me that when I was a newborn she used cloth diapers on me with the tie-on snibb cover. Later she switched to disposable inserts inside a tie-on cover, and around the time I was two, she started using all-in-one disposable diapers on me for nighttime or when we went away from home, and continued to use the snibbs with the disposable pads when we were at home during daytime.

I have a friend who is not an ABDL, but uses diapers because she has very heavy periods. She was born in 1986 and said that her parents also diapered her with a snibb cover and disposable pads up to 1990 when she was potty trained. She actually prefers adult-sized snibbs, and has worn them with a cloth diaper insert until last year, when she switched to disposable inserts, saying that she finds them more secure and sexier-looking than all-in-one disposables.

I've also tried out adult-sized snibbs with disposable pads, both because of curiosity and for nostalgia's sake when I was a baby. They do feel more secure, that they are tied on me, rather than only being held by tapes, and I also find them better-looking than all-in-ones, however they don't hold as much as an all-in-one diaper, and of course it has no leak guards, other than tying them on yourself very tightly.

Have you worn snibbs as a baby, or wear them now as an adult? What do you think of them?

I was kinda fascinated by snibbs when I saw pics of them online, yes, they do seem to be largely a Scandinavian thing. The reason they caught my eye is that some of my very first experiences of wearing plastic pants were ones that I improvised from some old plastic bathroom window curtains that I had found. I wrapped them around me like a diaper and tied them at the corners around my hips. I had pretty much forgotten about them until I saw them online.

I should add that I've never seen snibbs available online in the US, or anywhere else where I could reasonably order them.

You can easily make your own snibb covers by cutting out thin but strong PVC foil to a diaper shape. For inserts, you can use flat cloth diapers folded up to a rectangular, large maxi-pad-like shape. For disposable inserts, I found that combining an Abri San Premium 11 pad with an Abri Let Maxi booster pad on top results in about as much absorbency (or maybe even a little more) than a Tena Slip Maxi.

With this setup you can also easily gauge when to change. When you sit down, and feel a squish of pee coming up from the booster pad, it won't handle another wetting.

Snibbs were not available in the US, that I know of. Disposable diapers were just to common, and readily available anywhere. From about the early 70’s, Pampers dominated. I have seen them, and heard of them, thanks to the internet. I also have some vintage Snibbs, I have bought over the years, for my collection. I was curious about them, and had to have some.

We used these on both of our children when in Terry nappies and they worked very well with no memorable leaks.

And they were very cheap as a pack of 10 was probably only 50 or 60 pence back some 28 years ago.

Yeah, I've also heard stories from the 80s and 90s that other than having a smaller capacity and needing to be changed more often, they were generally more secure than all-in-one disposables, it's strange that they were eventually phased out. In Hungary, snibb covers for babies are still available in some baby care webshops, but the disposable pads for them aren't.

I know a mother who had a son in the early 90s, for whom she used snibbs, and later another son and a daughter in the early 00s, for them she used all-in-one disposables.

She told me of two ridiculous accidents with her early 00s babies that could've been prevented if they had snibbs on:

Her daughter once took such a forceful poop that the diaper tapes actually came undone, the diaper opened and poop rolled out onto the floor. The snibbs would've held because they were tied, rather than taped on.

She once diapered her son after he woke up, but there wasn't much pee in his night diaper. A few minutes after she put on his new diaper, he had such a forceful morning pee in it, that it spilled over the leak guards, the diaper not having enough time to absorb it, and it leaked. With snibbs, the pee would've simply sloshed around inside until the pad soaked it up.
