Foley catheter fetish

I love foley catheters. For me its the feeling of helplessness. the fact that no matter how much I have to go or don't want to go, I can't control it.

I agree. While it hurts, I really enjoy being helpless. There is just something to be said about not having control over your dick. It's like putting your manhood in someone else's hands.

Does numbing jelly squirted in the urethra prior to cathing help any to increase comfort or is this short term?

I want to wear my catheter/leg bag for an extended time, but have a dull pain after a short period of time (several hours and it gets to be distracting).

Any ideas are appreciated.

The reuse of intermittant caths (insert cath to drain and immediately withdraw) used to be the norm (and for some still is). Boil/bleach and let dry before reuse. Reuse of indwelling caths are a problem because the longer the cath sits in the bladder, the higher the likelihood of infection. The balloon structure of a foley is also prone to cracking, puncture if handled by boiling/bleach/rubbing.

I once saw - and I believe it was in FAQ in the library a treatise on reuse of catheters.

The advice was I believe - 'if you notice the catheter is getting brittle don't re-use it'

Please please don't wait until brittleness is obvious (or re-use at all)

Do you really want a piece of brittle rubber/plastic/whatever residing in your bladder?

The cost of a new one is minimal. The cost of brittleness is immeasurably high!

Urethral temps.... I used to know a mature RN who also had interests in urethral play and control. She lived rurally, and had acreage. Her family farmed. She had livestock oriented devices, and one was a farm thermomemter, which she wanted to use for urethral tems, which I gladly would've opened my legs for. Unfortunately, we never met, but she was real and very interested. The thermometer was somewhat large, all thick glass.

There are essentially 2 main sizes of balloons in common use, a 5cc balloon and a 30cc balloon. The 5cc balloon is typically filled to 10cc. 5cc is the minimum inflation volume that will allow the catheter to maintain a generally straight shape so that the tip does not irritate the bladder wall. You will see on most package directions that it does state that 10cc is the nominal volume of a 5cc balloon. In the vast majority of cases in the hospital and at home the 10cc volume is what's used. This balloon size is the one that 99.9% of the time is used for routine catheter usage.

The 30cc balloon is used for hemostasis (bleeding control) following operations such as TURP or removal of the prostate in order to fill the void where the prostate used to reside. The size of the balloon has absolutely nothing to do with creating a seal at the bladder sphincter. The normal fill volume of a 30cc balloon is 35cc for the same reason as the 10cc fill volume described above. One reason that a 30cc balloon is generally used only for hemostatsis is that the tip is much longer and this causes two problems: 1) It sits higher in the bladder resulting in more residual urine which can promote higher bacterial counts resulting in a UTI. 2) The longer tip does cause increased incidence of bladder spasm because it and the balloon do tend to irritate the bladder wall more than the 5cc foleys.

You have to be very careful on these forums because there are too many people giving out inaccurate information as facts and in some cases the information can be dangerous.

Kudos, Deke. Accurate info is critical. However, the more the merrier. I have found that 30cc balloons, in MY bladder, are a more overpowering and enjoyable delight than 5cc balloons. Even inflating a 30cc balloon prior to inserting it (to test it) is a powerful sight, when the nurse manages it, PRIOR to insertion...sure does get your attention.\\But back to basics... 5cc vs 30cc.. will usually be determined by the specific catheterized person, as to how it's enjoyed.

Monurol1, my intent is to give medically accurate information. The choice of a 5cc balloon vs a 30cc balloon during non-medical catheter play is one of personal choice, as you stated, and the fact that you enjoy the more intense feeling is the result of the tip hitting the bladder wall and/or the extra weight of the water-filled 30cc balloon on the bladder neck. 😁

Deke -- I would agree 100% with your statement!

The 5cc (inflated 10cc) holds the catheter in place and minimal urine stays in the bladder.. and for long term wearing (all day, or a couple days), you won't feel the balloon in your bladder or leak..

But for short-term, the 30cc balloon gives a great deal more stimulation (ie: drain tip is moving around, more urine ni the bladder) -- you will leak a lot.

5cc = wearing long term for incontinence..

30cc = wearing for orgasm 😃

This is the only time I wish I was male instead of female! I'd love to have that discomfort of the catheter insertion last longer and possibly be intensified when going through the prostate.

I would like to hear about your experiences with a 5 cc vs. a 30 cc retention balloon. I did my first 2 self-caths last week with a 16 and an 18 FR catheter, both of which had a 30 cc retention balloon. They both went in easy, and stayed in with no problem, the first one for 4 hours and the second one a couple of days later for 24 hours.

I saw one post where a person said the catheter came out in public, and it was quite messy and embarrassing. That made me wonder if the 5 cc balloons stay in as well as the 30 cc balloons.

Are there any differences between the two regarding feeling, etc.

Would love to hear several comments from people who have used both.

No doubt there are many on the forum more qualified than I to answer the question you pose, but I'll give you the benefit of my experience. When my partner and I play, we use 14FR Foley caths with 30cc retention balloons. Even though we are quite different in height and weight, this size seems to do the trick for both of us. Kind of a "one-size fits all" theory. When we insert the cath and inlate the balloon, we only use as much pressure as is necessary to block the flow of urine; frequently only 15-20cc. If I understand it correctly, the 5cc retention balloon is for use in pediatrics, and veterinary medicine.

The biggest concern for us is that urine does not escape around the cath, and the 30cc balloon seems to take care of that issue.

Thank you for your quick response. I used about 25 cc of water to inflate the balloon both times. Keep in mind that I had never done it before and had just read instructions and watched several how to video's before proceeding.

I would really appreciate hearing the experience of others also regarding this matter. A couple of the sites I looked at to buy catheters only had 5 cc foley catheters. Other sites had both. The site I bought mine from was expensive and I am looking for a more economical site to purchase them, and one that will still be very discreet.

As I stated in the fist post, the 30 cc worked well for me.

Both 5cc/30cc caths are intended for adult use. Selection of one vs. the other is a matter of professional and personal choice. A 5cc foley, inflated with 7-8cc (some water will be caught in the inflation channel) of sterile water, is adequate to retain the catheter in the adult male/female bladder. To visualize how big this baloon size is, inflate the balloon before insertion (you should do this anyway before insertion to check for leaks) and you'll see that this will do the job.

My own preference is to use a 30cc cath inflated with about 10-15cc of water. This inflation does not stretch the wall of the balloon to the max (as it would a 5cc balloon) and reduces the risk of a balloon rupture. There is no need to fully inflate a 30cc balloon. This large a balloon surface provides more risk of irritation to the wall of the bladder (more surface area of the balloon in contact with more surface area of the bladder). Irritation, in turn, could lead to bladder spasms and urine leakage.

Catheters that are listed as having 5cc balloons are typically filled with 10cc of water (distilled or deionized), not saline. You can read on the package that 10cc is recommended. 5cc is the minimum volume that the manufacturer requires to ensure that the balloon will fill to the point where the tip of the catheter will remain straight and not bend to the side which can cause bladder irritation and spasms. The reason not to use saline is that it can crystallize in the inflation channel after an extended time and cause difficulty in deflating the balloon.

A catheter with a 30cc balloon is typically filled to 35cc according to the manufacturer although some manufacturers such as Rouch rate their balloons for 30-50cc. 30cc is the minimum fill volume for the same reason as what I stated for the 5cc balloon.

The 5cc balloon is the typical size used for all normal adult catheterizations. The 30cc balloon is typically used for hemostasis (bleeding control) following removal of the prostate.

Pediatric catheters are typically 3cc balloons.

Those that worry that filling the balloons to their rated volume are risking rupture of balloon are worrying for nothing. These are certified volumes for medical devices, so you can imagine that there is a significant safety margin built into these numbers. If you ever wanted to try an experiment, try filling a catheter until the balloon breaks. You will be shocked by the volume required to cause balloon failure. And one more thing-- you should not use air to inflate the balloon. It will cause the balloon to float in the bladder causing a large residual volume of urine because the tip of the catheter will be way above the urine level. This can increase the risk of a UTI. It can also increase bladder spasms by jamming the tip into the top of the bladder.

BTW, I am in the medical profession, so these are not just anecdotal opinions. These are facts. Above all, sterility is the most important thing. If you don't know what this entails, ask, but don't do something that you are not sure of. Infections in this area are nothing to fool with.

I've used caths on and off for 10 years now and Deke's info is right on the money. The rated amount is the minimum to be used. I once tried popping a 30cc balloon and it took over 100cc's and it didn't burst so I gave up trying as I realized there was nothing to worry about going over 30cc's. And if you want a real interesting sensation heat the water in the syringe before you inject it into the cath. And good luck trying not to orgasm from that!

Also another best practice is to slightly inflate the balloon and drain it BEFORE inserting it. This will confirm the balloon is good and will drain in the bladder. I once had a cath that was defective and wouldn't drain. Needless to say glad I found out before it was in my bladder.

When i use a catheter i tend to like the 5cc balloon size. like the others said i tend to use more than 5cc's of water to inflate the balloon in side of my bladder. after i inflate it i give it a slight tug to seat the catheter in the neck of my bladder so it won't leak and have a big mess to clean up afterward 😁

FYI, seating the balloon at the neck of the bladder is not what stops leaking. The normal sphincter muscle at the bladder neck (the Internal Sphincter) is what prevents leaks. It just tightens around the catheter the same way that it tightens if no catheter is present. The purpose of seating the catheter at the bladder neck is to minimize the poking of the tip of the catheter into the opposite wall of the bladder and to keep the openings of the catheter as low as possible in the bladder in order to minimize the amount of stagnant pooling of urine which can lead to a UTI.

A further comment about filling the balloons. Yesterday I used a 20 Fr 30 cc catheter. I filled it with 30 cc of water as directed. This morning after I took it out, I filled it with 90 cc of water and it was not showing any signs of weakness. So I don't think there is any danger of filling it with 30 cc.

I don't want to beat a dead horse but some here are concerned about this. This morning I filled a 30 cc balloon with 120 cc of water and it did not burst.

So I think they are made plenty strong, as commented by another posted, and one not fear putting 30 cc of sterile water in a 30 cc balloon.

^^^^ Just be careful, you don't want to end up in the ER as they use a cystoscope to look around your bladder for rubber fragments from a broken balloon.

I should have made my post clearer. I did the 90 and 120 cc fillings after the catheter was out of me. Just before I threw it away, I filled them to that much to test the strenght.

I don't want to be in the emergency room either.

Research administering a Foley completely before you attempt to do it. There are many aseptic techniques that you need to follow to avoid a bladder infection. Good Luck.

Apologies if this has been discussed before but my search of the forums did not return a result that fitted my enquiry.

As a full time Foley catheter user for a few years now, & following many experiences (Good & bad) I have used many different brands & type of material of catheter, before finding the ones I am more comfortable using.

Some have caused irritations &/or trauma in the bladder &/or urethra, etc.

For myself, I prefer to use Bard Biocath (Coated latex can stay in situ up to 12 weeks) These only last me six to nine weeks before blocking but on the whole, easy to live with.

My second favourite is the Rusch (Silicone coated latex can stay in situ up to 28 days) I use these during periods of repeat blockages or when wife & I have the odd dirty weekends when the kids are not around.

My most disliked Cath’s are the 100% silicone variety, which all seem to be too hard & cause many problems for me. Perhaps these are OK for the bed bound but in my experience not for the active individual. The Sherwood & Coloplast silicone Foleys seemed to be the most unpleasant in my opinion.

So my question: What Brand & type of Foley catheter do you prefer to use & why, for short or long play / or use, or do you just use any Foley you can get.

My partner and I enjoy catheter/sound play quite a bit. We only use catheters for a few hours at a time or overnight at most. Right now, we're not too fussy about the type of catheters we use so we take whatever our supplier sends us. We're going to be playing in a few weeks and we have a pair of Bard triple-lumen Foley catheters on hand for some bladder irrigation play.
