Women are ask to take everything off and the nurse gives you a gown to put on with the split in front but I took my mil to a urogynecologist and they didn’t have a gown in the room! The nurse told her everything off and she wasn’t expecting that but I saw a towel and helped her on the table and put the towel across her chest! Women get there underwear off right off the bat!
I’m 62 and I guess it wasn’t pedestrians back then! We went to the county doctor for everything! He even delivered me! my so is 37 and he had a pediatrician for awhile but I took him to the same country doctor we had used for years! If something was wrong they sent you somewhere elaw!
My brother takes his male childern (my nephews) to the doctor (they are 9 and 11) and the nurse says ‘have them change out of their clothes into this gown, open in the back’ and they get weighted and examined in the gown. However the doctor still does the genital exam the same way as before but lifting the gown up instead of pulling down their underpants.Do they not wear underwear under the gowns?
I have to strip down to my underwear and just my underwear, no gown for my physical exams. I’m only in my mid 20s and my doctor is on the younger side too. I usually wear a jockstrap. For my genital and rectal exam, I just pull down my jockstrap to my knees so I’m essentially naked for my doctor to check my genitals and then I turn around and bend over the table with my jocks still around my knees for my doctor to check my out my hole.
I have never been offered a gown at a regular doctors appointment, I don't think they even have them. At the hospital or out patient clinics they usually do.
It is still here in germany, we don't sue gowns at Doctor visits. For procedures you may get one but not for normal exams.At Hospitals you get gowns also for procedures or if you come in as an accident with the ambulance

I'm guessing that it's a bygone era. I can still vividly remember the nurse saying everything off except your underwear as soon as I entered the exam room. For girls it was everything off except your underwear bra off. Everyone walking by got a clear view of you sitting on the exam table in just your underwear when the doctor entered the room.

I go for my physical every 6 months. I have to strip to my briefs and socks with the PA. Then the doctor comes in and I have to take off my briefs for the rest of the exam. Yes Im bent over the table .

There was a sudden shift by the late 90s toward doctors being more cognizant of kids' modesty. I'm old enough to remember when full nudity was part of physical exams - even my school/sports physicals.
My current gp has me undress to my underwear with no gown…my previous dr had me undress fully and had me wear a gown.
My current doctor has me strip to shorts with gown, which come off for GU/rectal. Pediatrician had me stripped to shorts with no gown (Not a thing then) Navy was either skivvies or nude (different doctors had different preferences) nude most of the time (Not uncommon in the Navy at the time) VA doctors usually did strip as you go.
