Aicha is kept away from sin

Realization

Her mother proposed her some tea and pastries. Aicha, on the one hand, wanted something sugary to help her recover from her emotions, on the other hand, she was so angry at her mother, angry to have been made to undergo that procedure. She accepted the proposal. Neither woman talked; the atmosphere was uneasy. Aicha absconded to her room once her collation was finished.

She could feel the device on her skin. She could feel the slight pulling. She could feel it through clothing.

She thought about undressing and having a look at it. She decided against it; what if her mother barged in? She instead went to the bathroom, took a small mirror, and looked between her legs. There she saw it.

The device, clad in some kind of plastic (which she would later learn to be silicone), covered her genitals from top to bottom. It had some narrow slit in the middle. At the top, what looked like a miniature lock.

A knock on the door. "Aicha? If you need to pee, the doctor said you should just do it, then rinse carefully."

And after some hesitation. "And also for pooping. Rinse carefully and avoid waste getting underneath… well… the device."

Aicha started to cry.

"But why, mom?? Why??

— It's in your own interest, Aicha. So that you stay away from sin."

Aicha sat on the toilet, crying.

Then she again stood to study the device. The slit was obviously designed to allow urine and menstruations to flow, without the possibility of pushing something as wide as a finger. It also covered the little knob that she used to pleasure herself… which had earned her the wrath of her mother when she had been seen. No more touching.

What could she do? Oh, yes, she was now eighteen, she could, in theory at least, leave home, find somebody to remove that device, or even demand that the doctor remove it. But that was theoretical. She had no money on her own, and she counted on her parents to pay for her university studies. Single women living alone were shunned by society, suspected of being of loose morals ("that's something that only the godless Westerners do", her mother would say). And some in her family would perhaps take the matter in their own hands.

Perhaps she could talk her father out of it? But he had certainly agreed to it, despite not accepting other… things—she had heard allusions to that, and she was glad that she had not been submitted to the surgical procedures that some of her girl friends had been.

Some more crying. And then, the tea that she had drunk took effect, and she felt a urge. She sighed, and she did as her mother had instructed: she rinsed underneath the device after peeing with the washlet attached to the toilet.
