My husband's catheter experience and stories

Piercing

Diana has arrived that day with the car earlier than usual. Bringing all the equipment, and Maid Margo transferred all from the car to our home medical office. In the anteroom all the cases where disinfected, and then transferred in the room. All three of us dressed in sterile clothing, covered our heads and hair, protected our mouths. All as if we were in the real operating room. We put on the gloves, and prepared the equipment on the table, everything was covered with a sheet. I lead Hubby in the room, slowly explained to him that today we would have a small intervention, and his job is only to lie on the bed and relax. As always, I've earlier gave him a tranquilizer. Hubby got hes favorite video on the big screen above his head.

Diana :. First we will do a navel piercing, then we'll go down...

I covered it all over with a green sheet, and only his navel was left uncovered. First Diana disinfected all with iodine red yellow color, so hubby's navel looked ridiculous. Several times with a stick she disinfected the recessed part of the navel. The navel and the area around was sprayed with a numbing spray. With a special marker she began to draw where should the piercing enter, and where to go out. She explained to me that the piercing has a special purpose, so she deliberately set a wider place for piercing. Again she sprayed a numbing substance to numb the pain. We all checked again, we consulted for the exact position of the piercing and for the needle and ring thickness. With a very thin needle she injected a local anesthesia, the same as used by a dentist. She waited slightly and set a U letter-shaped forceps. She explained to me that is better to use forceps U shaped than the one O shaped. One end of the needle she set above and the other end in the navel. She slowly squeezed the forceps, and she hooked the forceps, to remain compressed. She replaced her gloves. Once again. She looked at the corresponding marks. Then she chose a special needle and checked if the needle enters the ring. She checked the navel with a strong light, whether there are some veins, changed gloves again. I got the forceps, exactly as Diana had told me, she smeared all with Vaseline , put the needle on, and asked:

Diana: Ready?

She Suddenly pierced the now tense tissue, and the needle went through as a cheese. Hubby did not even move. Diana took the ring, adjusted the needle and all slipped through the hole. With special pliers spread the ring. I handed her the ball. The ball seated on place. She released the forceps. Next to that U pulled the ring out. All well smeared with antibiotic ointments. Over all she glued a wide adhesive plaster.

To be continued.
