As the tow trucks removed the first car in the accident, the ambulance raced up behind the scene. Two medics quickly hopped out from the back and hurried over when they heard Scott's voice calling for assistance. The two male medics listened when the doctor explained the situation.

"She is very close to active labor. I have not checked her progress as I have not got my bag. I usually have everything on me. It was a very busy day! I think we need to get the stretcher and transport to the ambulance as soon as possible."

Amanda looked up and grabbed the doctor's arm as he went to walk away and help the paramedics. She moaned deeply and through her panicked breathing, asked Doctor Hamilton to stay.

"Please don't leave me! The pain is so intense. My middle feels so heavy and I am getting really scared. I don't know what to do."

Scott looked down at Amanda and nodded. He knelt down on the side of the road and started to calmly instruct the laboring mother what to do.

"Your body is getting very close to birthing your baby. Just breath and try to focus on relaxing as much as you. When you are inside the ambulance and have some privacy, I will check your progress. When we know how far long you are, we can take the next step."

The two male medics returned with the stretcher and carefully with the help of Scott, placed Amanda on the bed and covered her with warm blankets. The sun had now set and the chill of the autumn air was closing around the accident scene. The men hurried as another contraction hit Amanda and she was now crying as they placed in the back of the medical transport.

"Ok, we are all in! We need to hurry! This baby is not going to wait much longer!" Scott instructed the driver and the sirens were placed on and the ambulance sped away from the scene as Amanda's car was towed away in the opposite direction.

Amanda was gripping the blankets hard now as Scott cleaned his hands and placed gloves on and asked if Amanda could hold one of the medics hands while he examined her. He slowly pressed into her channel and didn't like what he felt straight away. He continued to move his two fingers deeper and frowned at the paramedics alongside the patient.

"Big baby! Posterior position! 8 centimeters dilated. She is very close but I am not happy with the position of the baby."

"What is wrong with the baby?" Amanda looked down between her legs at the professional.

"Your baby is strong but very big! Your baby is coming through your body facing up. That explains your strong back labor. We have a little time still and the baby could still turn to make delivery much easier."

Amanda's back throbbed in terrible, cramping pain as another and another surge bombarded her body. She was sobbing and asked if she could have something for the pain but because she was transitioning, Scott could not give her anything for the increasing pangs. He asked the driver to radio ahead to the hospital to have a delivery room on standby.

"I know this is all hard to take in but I will be there in the delivery room with you. I am determined to see this birth through to the end now."

The ambulance's sirens screamed loudly as the laboring mother was carried with professional help to the best maternity hospital in the city. When they arrived, a team of the staff were waiting at the front doors. As the two male paramedics lifted the stretcher to the ground, Scott started to inform the members of staff of the circumstances. He hurried inside and took the head midwife aside for a quick, quiet conference.

"I told the laboring mother about the posterior position but there is other complications as well. That baby inside of her is huge and there could be pressure of the cord during delivery as well as the shoulders are large and may not pass through the birth canal at all. If there is any distress at all, we need to get the baby out immediately."

The head midwife just nodded and hurried to prepare with the other members of the delivery room staff.
