Years ago while still courting my wife, then my girlfriend I used to visit her at the nurses residence at a big training hospital.

One day while waiting outside her flat for her to come off duty her neighbour, an older nurse named Janine noticed me hanging around and asked if I would like to wait in her flat until my girlfriend came off duty. Janine was a petite girl with short blonde hair and she wore thick glasses. I accepted and she offered me some coffee. While making the coffee she noticed me sniffling a bit and told me the best treatment for a cold is vitamin C and asked me if I wanted some.Thinking it would be one of those fizzy tabs you dissolve in water I said "sure". She went to her cupboard and retrieved a bag, then went to her fridge to get something.

When she returned I noticed she had 2 ampoules in her hand and told me that she was going to administer the vit c by a slow intravenous injection. I got a bit nervous because the last iv injection I had was very painful. "Dont worry it'll be ok" she reassured me. Janine opened the bag and took out a 20ml syringe, unwrapped it and attached a needle. She snapped off the top of the smaller amp, 5ml of vit c and drew it up. She opened the bigger amp, 10ml of saline and drew it all up. She removed the needle and attached a 21g needle and smiled at me, "we're ready".

She patted her bed and told me to lie down and hold my left arm out. As I lay down she put a pillow under my outstretched arm and wrapped an elastic cuff around my the top of my arm and pulled it tight. Her delicate hands rubbed the injection site and then she patted my arm a few times. She opened an alchohol prep pad and swabbed my arm. "Are you ready?" I nodded. "Ok here we go, dont pull away!"

She uncapped the needle and raised the syringe and flicked it a few times to get all the bubbles out before placing the needle against my skin. I was nervous but also very excited "Deep breath" she told me and then avanced the needle into my arm. I felt a sharp pain where the needle had dissapeared under my skin. A bit of blood appeared in the hub of the needle " the needle is in" she smiled before putting a piece of micropore tape over the hub of the needle to keep it in place.

She slowly depressed the plunger and a cold tingling feeling went up my arm. It felt amazing...

"Dont want to give the injection too fast, are you ok?" She asked me. I smiled because I was really enjoying the experience of my first iv vitamin C injection.

As she slowly injected the contents of the syringe she told me that she loved giving injections and that her boyfriend would never let her near him with a needle and that he was a woosie.. she smiled at me and thanked me for trusting her.

After about 5 mins the injection was completed, she removed the tape, put a cotton ball over the puncture site and removed the needle. I thanked her for the most amazing injection that i've ever had and she said that I should come back for more. I did return many times for coffee and injections but thats a story for another time...
