6:30 am fri.
I'm woke up at 6:30 every am to take my meds , Two Tylenol and one oxycodone ,
I had the privilege of getting my catheter changed last night . The lead nurse was sure she could handle me ....... To handle me is not the problem . In the last year I have had nurses that "shoved" the catheter in , Or yanked it out , not caring if the balloon was deflated all the way or not , So with their abuse and "misuse" I have blind spots and dead ends inside me now . It can be a real adventure changing my catheter,,,, now,,,, .And it's not going to happen with out me helping some .
The nurse last night found that out . First the catheter was "stuck" inside me , It almost wouldn't come out . She pulled my hips up off the bed before it started out . The balloon was bloodstained ,,, showing it had been in too long and not flushed often enough or moved enough to keep it from adhering to the skin inside me . Then came the "insertion" ....... I think she found every blind spot and every dead end that I now have . She almost gave up . I gloved up and gave her a'' "hand"'' , Yep it took four hands to put a catheter in me ,,,, And I wasn't resisting !!! She was covered in sweat and worried the whole time that she was hurting me . Well she was ,,, but It was expected ,,,,,,, But as I showed her .. I wasn't passing big bloody chunks of myself . So it was all good .
I wish I could relax and let myself enjoy getting my catheter changed . I am still waiting to get back on the bath rotation .
I have to admit it ,,,, but to have another scrub you're back is divine ....... That's not to say that when my wife was alive we never bathed together .... But that was just for our fun and enjoyment . {and a few stripes across my rear } I still miss her .

Train those nurses! But -gently-, in a way that it doesn't seem you are. Train them in the things they think they know.
I know little about catheterization but from what you've said, it needs to be turned every so often. Could you do that by yourself? I don't know if you need lube for that or whatever. Is it possible to keep the extra packets of lube or a half empty bottle and some gloves in your side drawer? Doing the little things that -need- to be done with your cath is probably at the end of their list of 'to do' things. If you can do some of these smaller things, it might make life a little bit easier. I don't know how receptive they are about timing but you might consider saying you need it change an hour before it really does. (Though I've heard you talking about 'days'.)
I hope you can get the basic care that you need and not neglect from most of the staff.
But keep on trying to -gently- train your nurses. They think they know it all so direct confrontation will only put their backs up. Your efforts may pay off in the long run.
Please take care dear Sir and be kind to yourself.
