So frustrated
Went and saw hip orthopedics PA this morning he said i still have lots of tenderness but since i am under 50 he would like me to wait 6 months then try injections first I cant believe a doctor would ask someone to suffer because they are too young for surgery. very frustrated

I powdered my knee when I was 31. It took a while, but I was walking again, and eventually pretty normally. But to this day I feel too much pain if I try to run or jog… I struggled a great deal with this, doctors just recommended more therapy, I felt like it was a problem with the pins or plates left in my leg.
In the Interim I saw that Austrian in the Olympics without legs running on the springy “blades” for feet. In pity I’d wonder, would my prognosis be better if I lost my legs entirely? What’s the deal?
Eventually I accidentally discovered where the problem was that could be fixed via exercise. They were right, they were just conservative and vague. I should have pressed them and, most of all myself, harder and longer.
My recommendation? Be 110% honest and direct with your doctors. Tell them why you aren’t comfortable with their recommendation. But also, have a goal. And push hard to it. Simply “not having pain” may not be enough because you may need to push through pain to fix or correct the problem or to expose the actual issue.
It’s hard - what’s “good enough” for someone may not be for another. Make sure your doctor knows what is good enough for you and be aggressive (but polite!) as your own advocate and you’ll get there.
Good luck!

I totally understand your frustration, Suz. Hopefully, that six months will go by fast. Do you have pain meds?

Fawkes it has nothing to do with wanting a hip replacement. Its wanting to be able to walk without falling or sharp pain anymore. But I will do as asked and suffer another 6 months which is so wrong but thats my personal opinion and i have realized my opinion doesnt always matter.

Do you want a hip replacement? Where you hoping for a hip replacement? That is what I’m getting from this blog in addition to your frustration.

I would ask for a second opinion. Is that possible?
You should not have to wait 6 month for injections

Never listen to a P.A. only see a MD. Had a P.A. tell me my hip was fine, demanded to see a MD. He said I should have the hip replaced asp I was the last patient that P.A. saw he got his walking papers. This was at a Mayo hospital

You have done everything your providers have asked. I suspect insurance red tape BS.

Orthos don't like to do joint replacements on patients younger than 50 for a simple reason. It's because artificial joints wear out and need to be replaced. The younger you are, the more likely it is that you will end up needing a revision and perhaps multiple revisions during your lifetime.
