A Fantastic Weekend Plus A Few Memories
The kids came home last weekend and I cannot begin to say just how much we enjoyed it. My son in law was fascinated by the fruitcake and wanted a taste, no it is for Christmas, but what happens if I am not here, you will be. We ate then I unleashed my Snickers pie on them, wish I had made 2 as they did not last long. One should have seen my husband and granddaughter sharing the last piece, worse than 2 little kids.
Saturday was dreadful, windy and spitting rain so we headed to the mall. My grandson enjoyed Chic Fil-a and the playground. My granddaughter now 8 ½, going on 20 wanted a new skateboard, took her to the teen shop where she picked out one with purple skulls. Then it was off to clothes shopping, she sure can destroy a bank account.
The men burnt their eyes out on football, I made a pizza run then more beer and football, at least they were happy. My hubby and I had been looking at a photo album, yes we still have them from 20 years ago and my daughter picked it up, was of our wedding and so I had to tell her the story. First a glass of wine. Her only comment was how we all looked like hippies.
We were going to the Carib with some friends, why don’t we get married down there. Why not sounds like fun. We flew into St Thomas on a Friday, rented 2 vans, picked up a marriage license in Port Charlotte, got the name of a minister who would marry us, loaded up on food and adult beverages, took the ferry from Red Hook to St Johns. We had rented a 6 bedroom house on the ocean and it was as everything we had ever dreamed of. We contacted the minister and asked if we could get married on Monday, sure, have a beautiful place on the beach, told us the location.. As turned out it was a bar in a motel, oh shit.
I had taken a simple white dress, just below the knee to get married in, little did I know the rest would dress in shorts, wild tops and flip flop, this is going down hill fast. We got to the bar, ordered a drink then this guy walked over, introduced himself, he was going to marry me, wearing a wild shirt, shorts, hair in a ponytail and a bushy beard carrying his drink.
We carried our drinks down to the beach were we stood up before him and he married us, don’t know if he was sober or not but we did do it. The location was picture perfect so thus all the wonderful pictures I was left with. Went back in, signed the papers, then had another round, he was still drinking when we left. The next day we rented a schooner with a crew of 3, provided us with beer and wine, lunch and was a fantastic day. Sailed around the island, did some snorkeling, lots of pictures, lots of memories.
After we got home, we wondered if we had actually gotten married, the paperwork arrived, well big boy guess you are stuck with me.
