What a Way to Start Retirement!
In my previous blog post, I announced my retirement from a 42 year career as a creative director/copywriter. It was a great run and a fulfilling career that provided me with steady work and income and allowed me to plan for a decent retirement. Hubby and I were going to travel (despite the perpetual pandemic), he was going to teach me how to play golf (so he'd always have someone to beat on the links) and I was going to indulge in some long awaited adventures on my own.
On August 1st, in a freak accident, I managed to severely tear my rotator cuff in my shoulder. Talk about painful and unrelenting!! Despite early hopes that we could get through this without resorting to surgery, those plans fell through. Now, I'm engaged in physical therapy (not really…it's like physical torture) and slowly regaining range of motion. But the pain is still there…all day…every day. Icy Hot patches have become my best friend.
Hopefully, by mid-winter things should be approaching normal again. The doctors and my PT tell me that six months is pretty much the norm insofar as recovery is concerned based on the severity of my injury. We'll see. It seems like it's been six years already!
I have just gotten to the point that I can type again without needing pain pills.
And as for one of my favorite pastimes…enemas? Hubby has to help with those since I cannot reach behind myself to insert the nozzle, much less hang a full bag. And I've only asked for help when I've really needed it. Hopefully, as things improve the joy and delight that comes with a good enema series will return. Until then, I'll live vicariously through the adventures of my Zity friends!
As always, have fun…and play safe!

So sorry for your accident Deb, hope you make a full recovery. I slipped on ice a couple years ago and fell on my shoulder and hit my head, almost blacked out. Went to a Ortho, said I didn't tear my rotor cuff because I had lots of range of motion. Prescribed PT instead of a MRI because he said that's the way the Ins. company would want to go. Grrrrrrrrr!!! Did 3 months of that , helped a little but didn't fix the problem. To this day, I can't lift or hold anything more than 2# with my arm extended out. Guess I'll just live with it. Hope you get better results.
Sincerely, Mike :)

PT does work, but it is WORK. Best of luck regaining your range of motion.

Sorry to hear about your mishap Deb. I managed to tear mine in both shoulders just about 6 months apart. Had surgery on one but opted not to for the other. Six months of physio and acupuncture and I still have to do exercises every morning or they give me gyp three years later. :(
We just don't heal as well as we age unfortunately.
Hope things improve for you.
Sending healing thoughts.
Jim.
