Yesterday I had a "mini physical".
Actually last week I had palpitations once in the middle of night. Mom called the Dr. She is a gyn but has been kind enough to help everyone. She stethed me and took my pulse. Then she asked me to splash ice cold water on my face. It actually helped a little. Don't know the logic. After that she asked me to lie down. While she rubbed my feet and hands and asked rubbed my chest. Things felt normal soon but she stethed me, this time over the clothes, and took my pulse every 15 minutes for the next 2 hours and stayed back for the rest of the night.
My parents had decided, if things don't get controlled, we will go to the hospital. But thankfully that wasn't required that day. It was due to dehydration she said.
Two days back, I started feeling uneasy with my breathing in the late evening after my nap. I also had a bad backache. Dad said we will go to the hospital if I don't feel better by the next day.
As I didn't get better we went to the hospital yesterday. Dad accompanying me.
We met a cardiologist my GP suggested. She did a thorough stething, both sitting and lying down. Dad was outside the exam area. She saw that I was short of breath. When sitting she stethed back more than the front. Don't know why. Anyway.
She looking at my previous reports said I should get urine test blood test ECG xray and 2D echo done.
I was prepared for Xray but not so much. I was carrying my own nightie so l didn't have to wear hospital gown for Xray. We didn't question, but felt strange to be asked for back Xray alongwith chest. But anyway that was done. It felt little weird when the male x-ray technician reminded me about taking off my bra specifically when I went in to change. But that's ok. He was doing his duty.
It was my first experience of 2D echo as well. Dad sat outside again. The nurse asked me to take off the t-shirt and bra and lie down on bed. I am very sensitive around the breasts. As soon as she put gelled transducer on my chest I could feel my nipples turning hard. The nurse noticed and smiled. "Relax" she said. So embarassing.
It had already been more than 2 hours. So we got all reports. Both dad and I were sacred as based on these reports the doctor was to suggest whether I need lung function test, something we didn't want to get done. Luckily the doctor didn't say that. She said the reports are generally ok. I should see a orthopaedic, there is a back sprain shown in the x-ray that is the reason of shortness of breath as shown in ECG.
I was like lets go home, now we know the reason. We will come the next day. But dad wanted to finish so as to avoid coming back again. That made sense so I agreed.
We met the orthopaedic. He asked where the pain was and all. Then asked to take my t-shirt off. I was ok. He tapped and pressed first in standing position then asked to lie on bed on one side and tapped and pressed the back again. Both the times it hurt in the upper back at the same point. In the sittinstanding position he asked me to bend my head left and right.
Ultimately he said what xray showed, sprain in the lumbar and cervical area. He gave an ointment and has asked bed rest for 2 days.
Feeling slightly better today.
So this was all about my mini physical. Going through the whole appointment wearing a mask was tough. Luckily it was just a sprain but after palpitations we were really worried.
