Return of the Baby part 2: The journey from childhood.
Chapter 19: The Cubscounts
Jamie was now six years of age and had joined the cubscounts earlier that year and enjoyed being a part of a group that gave him so much fun as well as lifetime survival and camping skills as well as drama and amature astronomy which he liked so much that in later life he would continue this hobby.
Chapter 20: village life
Jamie was very glad that he lived in a picturesque and beautiful part of Northumbria where he could go to the riverside and woods that were only 15-20 minutes away from his home and to a place where he could relax and find solitude at weekends and where he could also visit the local community vidiostore/library where he spent most of his spair time reading comic books and enjoying his time off school.
Chapter 21: the mobile library
When Jamie was eight years of age he discoverd that there was a mobile van which had written on it mobile library Jamie was intreaged in finding out what that meant because the nearest permanant library was in Hexham a 30 minuet drive from Acomb, once inside he discoverd a large veriety of books and magazines the library vehicle had been leased from Newcastle city council and had been converted into a library from an ex prison van although his time in it was limited because they were only there on a twice weekly basis Thursday and Tuesdays from 9am-5pm or on a Saturday and Sunday from 9am-3pm.
Chapter 22: Secret regressions
Jamie was still quite small for his age and looked more like a 2-3 year old rather than a 8 year old boy and because of this he used to get bullied and called a baby something that he didn't like people calling him, although secretly he knew they were probably right as he had been regressing somewhat at home in his bedroom as the spair box of pampers diapers which had been left over from when he was a baby was stored under his bed the box read L-XL for babies weighing 23-41lbs and had at least 100-200 diapers in it because it was a value box, Jamie had been whittling this down to probably around 100 diapers as he had tried them on in secret since he was 5-6 years old and used to wear them at nights to prevent any risk of bed wetting accidents this supply would last until 2 years late when he got bored of them and his brother was toilet trained at the age of 3.
Chapter 23: The Mega Climbing Frame
One day Jamie's pearents had a delivery of what looked like wood and metal bolts with a red coloured netting, Jamie couldn't believe his eyes when he saw the most exciting thing he had ever seen over the next few days he helped his pearents assembling the giant climbing frame which resembled a giant mechccano set with help of the person who delivered the frame and even enjoyed sliding down the slide as a test.
Chapter 24: Crying saves a life
One night when Jamie woke up to go to the toilet he stood up on the top bunk bed and to his alarm found himself being dragged backwards as I he was sucked into a small opening suddenly he was hanging by his neck in-between the bedding and the gaurd rail of his bed and was now dangerously running out of air and consciousness affixation and death would surely follow if he did nothing to save himself from the in the end from the inevitable tragedy that would soon insue , And so in a state of panic and a fear of death as well as in desperation in an attempt to get attention he started to try and scream but he couldn't so he started crying and finally his woke up his father who came rushing in to see what the matter was and saw Jamie in that life threatening situation.
He managed to free Jamie but from then on Jamie only sleept on the bottom bunk as he was afraid to go through all that again but sleeping on the bottom bunk had it's fringe benefits too because the spair diapers where stored under the bedding and he needed one just to calm himself down after his traumatic near death experience the night before so diapers lasted another year or so until he was almost 10 years old.
Chapter 25: First Visit to France
Jamie was around 8-9 years of age when one day his pearents bought a second hand caravan and announced that they were all going to Brittany in France for a 2 week holiday during the summer school term break and this meant leaving their home in hexham with Jamie's 18 month old brother who was named Matt around 6pm in the evening to arrive at Dover for the 12:00am ferry service from Dover to Calies which was aboard a Sea France/P&NO roll-on roll off ferry service the next morning which arrived in France a day later because it was a overnight sailing.
Chapter 26: Nightmares and visions of monsters and evil dragons.
One night Jamie awoke with a fright as he had had a nightmare which seemed all too real, not helped by the neibouring tents teenagers who had a like or hobby for spooky gothic horror based music and their love of all things scary.
Chapter 27 the treat
The next day however was great at Jamie and Matt where treated to French Fries or freeights orangina and ice cream for afterwerds but as they were in France everything was in franks a currency that was very strange at first.
Also Jamie and Matt both took pleasure at being at the beach for the day and visiting the local cematary which was mostly filled by ww1 & ww2 graves although sad was also fascinating and would later spark Jamie's interest or hobby in history.
Before they went back they had time to visit a real French castle and it was very interesting to see how similar it was to the sand castles Jamie loved building only made of stone and not sand.
Chapter 28 Normandy Beaches and D day museum.
Over the course of the following week and a half they had left Jamie and Matt visited many places of interest including the site of the imfomous D day landings and even visited some of the pontoons or docks made for that purpose although these were replicas as the real ones where further out at sea and were too dangerous to visit as they had been badly damaged by storms over the years.
Learning about these places made Jamie sad but also interested in the engineering part of their construction and also interested in the men who manned them 24/7 in the face of both inclement weather and enemy fire.
On the last day in France Jamie and Matt visited a strawberry farm which was a great day out as they enjoyed picking strawberries and other things like blueberries and raspberries and these would be made into French deserts once they got home the day later.
Chapter 29 the stormy trip home
On the day they left Britanniny in France there was a storm brewing in the channel which made sailing in the ferry difficult and as it was the overnight ferry it was not a nice trip home, the business were in the cabins beneath the main deck but we're practically unusable as the motion of the heavy seas threw them out of bed and the staying in the caravan would have been unsafe as well because of the constant moving from side to side, fortunately by breakfast time the next day they had arrived in calmer waters near Dover and everyone was able to have a good breakfast in the upstairs bestro/restaurant before disembarking and the long trip home which took 6-7 hours including stops for rests and food or dinner at a service station near Manchester.
