I'm not sure who else remembers those days but I do. I looked back when I turned 21 and reflected on everything to the point it scared my friends how much I remembered at such a young age. I was at a restaurant doing the "I'm finally 21 now I have to get as close to alcohol poisoning as I can" when my friend mentioned that we were both getting older. He asked me what my earliest memory was.
My very first memory that I recall was when my parents were still married (the rest I only remember from photographs) but I was being dressed on a bed and I remember being picked up and looking at the floor from what felt like such a great height. I remember parts of the day similar to how people tell me about how they remembered a night of drinking then asking me what the hell happened. I noticed a few pieces of furniture that were in that house and since I was around the age of 1 I've only lived in apartments as a child.
It was verified from my aunt who told me she lived within walking distance and would visit me with her son (my oldest cousin) and she even showed me pictures of us in the house and me chewing on my toys. It was one of the few times I bonded with my aunt because she's the type who loves babies but becomes very strict after you get older. That's the reason why I still recall that original memory.
I was enjoying a meal and a mixed drink (I really can't drink too much) and my friend told me he didn't like to tell people but his first memory was his first day of school and he remembered it because his mother had to stay with him until he stopped crying. He wasn't from the same state and doesn't remember too much about anything prior to kindergarden. I shared my memories of every first day of school I had.
I remembered pre-school very well, and most of the other children in the class because some were my neighbors and we all ended up going to the same elementary school. On the first day I went to the window and watched all the bigger children playing outside and was waving at them until class started. It was all introductions and I had to have been very annoying because I kept running around and being reminded to sit down with the rest of the class.
Kindergarden was different because it was at another school and it was a much larger classroom. I was shy and unlike pre-school the teacher told us all if we do anything wrong we would be punished with time out. It was also the first time I was ever told to do homework.
First grade was a great first impression because I was praised for raising my hand and knowing the answers to basic questions. When we had our introductions most of the children lived on a military base. It was also the first time I had lunch (any food in general) from a school cafeteria.
Second grade I was more confident and very excited to be there. I got in trouble for playing with a pencil sharpened that was mounted to the wall. It was the first time I was held after class and I got scolded when I got home.
I could recall more but that's around the age where everyone has a more clear memory. Also, the roads always were paved and painted right before school and that scent reminds me of school. Who else remember much about school?
