To those in the path...
For the first time in the 2011 season, a large portion of the eastern seaboard is threatened by a major hurricane. In SC we've been on our toes all week only to discover that Irene is going to skip right over us. It looks as though our friends in the NY, NJ, DC, and perhaps Boston area could be in for some trouble. I just wanted to take this opportunity to wish our friends to the north the very best of luck. Maybe the lovely Irene will fizzle before she gets there. Otherwise, please be prepared if you have to evacuate. Don't be brave, just get to a safe place and batten down the hatches
We're keeping a good thought for all of you!

In an ironic twist, it was my sister in Vermont that got NAILED by Irene. She lives in a picturesque little village where she is the Director of Tourism and Economic Development. Unfortunately, half the town was swept off its foundations by the floodwater, including the bridge that connects the two sides of the town. What used to be a five minute drive from one side of town to the other requires a 50 minute drive and a trip almost into Canada.
I may be a Yankee by birth, but I'm a Southerner by the grace of God!

Gee, thanks xkv8r, that's very kind of you to say! I try to keep my chin up because, really, what else is there to do?
Mausie, we are having some strange "meteorological phenomenon" as my partner likes to say. But hey, the Mayan calendar ends in 2012, nothing should be a surprise from here on out. Like I say, I've been through a few hurricanes, but not the big ones. Big or small, ferocious or feeble, they are no fun.
Take care everyone.

I'm happy it skipped past you, I hope it doesn't get too bad in NJ and boston or anywhere it decides to hit. Seems like it's going to be the craziest hurricane too I read or heard on one of the online news. I'm just happy you are ok, and am right with you hoping that anyone located in those areas are going to be okay too. I know Luvv_It is in Jersey area and apparently felt the earthquake the day that happened. I don't know some how seems to be a lot of weather hurricanes, Toronado's Thunderstorms like one after another it's insane!!!
