Lisa's medical examination at school
Part 1
**School Medical Examination – A Dialogue**
---
**Examination room, 9:15 AM. A soft knock at the door.**
**Dr. Weber:** Come in!
*The door opens. Lisa, 18 years old, enters, followed by her mother. She is wearing jeans, a white T-shirt, denim shorts, and is barefoot, carrying her sneakers in her hand.*
**Dr. Weber:** Good morning. You are Lisa Müller? Please come in.
*Lisa sits down on the visitor's chair. Her mother remains standing uncertainly.*
**Dr. Weber:** Mrs. Müller, I will examine Lisa alone. We will call you if needed.
**Mrs. Müller:** Of course, I'll wait outside.
*The mother leaves the room. Lisa appears nervous and clutches her shoes tightly to her chest.*
**Dr. Weber:** So, Lisa, regular school examination in eleventh grade. We'll start right away. I would like to ask you to take off both your bra and the T-shirt and pants. You can keep your underwear on, and remain barefoot. We'll begin with measuring and weighing.
*Lisa nods embarrassedly, goes to the corner of the room, turns to the side, and first opens the bra clasp under her T-shirt. She pulls the bra out and lays it on the chair. Then she hesitates briefly before pulling the T-shirt over her head and removing it as well, and finally takes off her denim shorts. She now stands barefoot in the room wearing only her underwear.*
**Dr. Weber:** Please come over here to the measuring rod.
*Lisa steps up to the wall with the measuring rod. Dr. Weber slides the measuring bar down.*
**Dr. Weber:** Stand straight, back against the wall. Head up.
*He measures.*
**Dr. Weber:** 5'4" (1.63m). Good. Now the scale.
*Lisa steps onto the scale.*
**Dr. Weber:** 115 lbs (52 kg). Fits well with your height. Now please sit on this chair here – I'll take your blood pressure.
*Lisa sits on the examination chair, topless, her arms slightly crossed.*
**Dr. Weber:** Please extend your arm, lay it on the armrest. Relax.
*He applies the cuff, pumps it up, and releases it. The device shows the values.*
**Dr. Weber:** 110 over 70 – completely normal. Good. Now we'll move on to listening. Please sit on the examination table back there.
*Lisa goes to the table and sits on the edge, her legs dangling slightly, her arms crossed in front of her torso.*
**Lisa:** Like this...?
**Dr. Weber:** Yes, sit up straight, shoulders back. I'll place the stethoscope on you now.
*He steps up to the table and places the diaphragm of the stethoscope on Lisa's left chest side, over her heart. Lisa flinches slightly at the touch.*
**Dr. Weber:** Cold?
**Lisa:** A little...
**Dr. Weber:** Breathe normally. Now take a deep breath... and out... again...
*He moves the stethoscope systematically over the entire chest – top, bottom, sides, above and below the breasts, while Lisa sits on the table. She breathes deeply in and out as instructed.*
**Dr. Weber:** Very good. Now please turn to the side so I can listen to your back.
*Lisa turns sideways on the table so that her back is accessible.*
**Dr. Weber:** Deep breath... and out... again...
*He places the stethoscope between the shoulder blades, then lower on the back, switching sides.*
**Dr. Weber:** Excellent. Your lungs are clear, no rattling. Heart rhythm is regular. Turn back to the front.
*Lisa turns back, sitting on the table again.*
**Dr. Weber:** Now I'll examine your abdomen. Please lie down on your back.
*Lisa slides back on the table and lies down.*
**Dr. Weber:** Relax. I'm going to palpate your abdomen now.
*He palpates with flat hands over the abdomen, pressing gently under the ribcage on the right and left.*
**Dr. Weber:** Does anything hurt here?
**Lisa:** No.
**Dr. Weber:** Here?
**Lisa:** Not there either.
**Dr. Weber:** Perfect. Liver and spleen feel normal. Please stand up now – I need to look at your back.
*Lisa gets up from the table, barefoot on the floor, topless.*
**Dr. Weber:** Stand straight, legs together. I'll look from behind.
*He examines the spine from behind, then from the side.*
**Dr. Weber:** Now bend slowly forward, hands toward your toes, but don't strain – just let them hang loosely.
*Lisa bends forward. Her back is now fully in the light.*
**Dr. Weber:** Good, straighten up again. Turn to the side... and the other side...
*He palpates with his fingers over the back, feeling the edges of the vertebrae.*
**Dr. Weber:** Everything is in order. No curvature. Now the reflexes.
*He checks the reflexes at the knees.*
**Dr. Weber:** Everything is perfect. You can get dressed again – bra and T-shirt.
*Lisa goes to her things, first takes the bra and puts it on, then the T-shirt.*
**Lisa:** Done.
**Dr. Weber:** Very good. Then I'll get your mother.
*He opens the door. Mrs. Müller enters.*
**Dr. Weber:** So, Mrs. Müller: Lisa is completely healthy. Height and weight are appropriate for her age, blood pressure is normal, heart and lungs are in perfect condition, spine is straight, development is entirely within normal range. No concerns. The next examination is next year.
**Mrs. Müller:** Wonderful, thank you.
**Lisa:** *(takes her shoes)* Goodbye.
**Dr. Weber:** Goodbye, Lisa. Take care.
*Lisa and her mother leave the room.*
