Dr K. was a very beloved gynecologist in town who saw all the women in my family and they all adored him. I had heard a lot about him from my mom. He was in his 40s, tall, medium build with very piercing green eyes and an infectious smile and cleanly shaven.

I was 12yo and he told my mom that she should take me to watch her annual exam so I would get comfortable when it was my turn. My mom thought it was a good idea.

The day soon arrived. It was a Wednesday and it was raining a lot. My mom was anxious. I didn't know what I was getting myself into. I had not heard too much about gyno exams other than the stirrups.

We arrived at the office and sat in the waiting room. It was very well decorated. It looked fancy. Much nicer than the pediatrician's office that I was used to. The waiting room was full of women of all ages.

I had a lot on my mind. But I wasn't the patient. So I was just listening and watching. Taking it all in.

They finally call my mom and we go to the room. The nurse came and took my mom's vitals and ask her to go to the bathroom, change into the gown and leave a urine sample. My mom knew the drill and went to the bathroom. I stayed in the room by myself as the nurse left.

Before my mom comes back I hear a knock on the door and in comes Dr K.

"You must be Andy!! It's a pleasure to meet you! I'm so glad you're joining us today" he said with a big smile as he extended his hand.

I shook his hand "yes thank you" I said in a very shy tone. Not knowing what is appropriate.

"You will see that gyno exams are nothing to be afraid of. And soon in a couple of years it will be your turn young lady"

I nodded. Starting to get nervous. What was taking my mom so long?

Finally my mom comes back wearing just her gown open on the front partially closed.

She opens the door and smiles as she sees Dr K. "Very nice to see you again Fanny" he said to my mom. "Thank you Dr K. Happy to be here". They were both smiling and it looked like they genuinely liked each other.

"I'm glad you brought your daughter like I asked you. This will be very informative for her. I ask all my patients to bring their daughters but most refuse"

"Yes Doctor it was a great idea! Andy come sit next to me. The doctor and I will explain everything" my mom said as she sat on the exam table. It was a brown table with the white wrinkly paper and metal stirrups attached to it.

My mom sat on the side table. Her feet were hanging down, I wondered when she would have to go in the stirrups. But she seemed to know exactly what to do. The doctor moved a chair so I would be sitting by her side.

He asked my mom questions about her cycle, about pain or any complains that she might have before he started the exam. She said she didn't have any. Maybe she didn't want to tell him in front of me. He also skipped any questions about sex.

"Ok excellent let's begin. Andy, a well woman exam includes examining all of the woman's parts. Including the breasts. I will begin examining your mom's breasts to check for any lumps. Every woman shouldn learn how to do a self exam as well and I'm hoping this is something I can teach you in due time as well" He said as he looked at me smiling. Did he notice my breasts? I already had breasts at 12 and felt very embarrassed. I looked down to see if my hard nipples were showing. I still didn't know what this exam entailed. What was he about to do to my mom?
