Lea's sports examination
Part 1
Lea sat in the waiting room, nervously tugging at the sleeves of her hoodie. It was her first sports medical examination, and even though she just wanted a check-up for her training, everything felt a bit unfamiliar.
“Ms. Meier?” the medical assistant called out kindly.
Lea stood up and followed her into a bright examination room. Shortly after, the doctor entered, introduced himself calmly, and began with a few questions—about her training, whether she had any complaints, and how often she exercised. The conversation helped her relax a little.
“Then I’d like to ask you to undress down to your underwear,” he said matter-of-factly. “I’ll check your heart, lungs, and mobility.”
Lea nodded, stepped behind the screen, and undressed down to her bra and underwear. It felt unfamiliar at first, but at the same time everything seemed very routine.
When she stepped out again, the doctor listened to her heart and lungs with a stethoscope. “Take a deep breath in… and out,” he said calmly. In between, he explained what he was doing, which helped Lea feel more at ease.
After that, he checked her posture, asked her to bend forward, stand on one leg, and raise her arms. Everything was conducted in a professional and respectful manner.
Later, she had to get on a bicycle ergometer. As she pedaled, electrodes were attached for an ECG, and she noticed her pulse gradually increasing. “Very good, keep a steady pace,” she heard the doctor say.
After the test, she was allowed to get dressed again. In the final consultation, he explained the results and gave her tips for her training.
When Lea left the practice, her nervousness had disappeared. Instead, she felt relieved—and just a little proud to have taken the first step.
