A few last wishes

Part 72

Gary looks intensely focused as he is drawing and Katie is becoming increasingly curious. Hank is taking over for Eric and Laura is being entertained eavesdropping on Eric's parents.

"Gary, Gary...no. What would Sarah say? This isn't healthy at all. Painting fantasies of girls kissing is not appropriate. Not at all."

"Eh hem. It's not a fantasy it is true picture and it happened." Laura looks out of the corner of her eye and starts giggling again.

"Gary, no, no. Eric's nurses did not open mouth kiss eachother at the nurse's station. Women don't do things like that. Gary are you watching those weird shows on TV again?

"Uh uh, this really happened, stop cencensoring my art. Sarah told me I had a right to express myself."

"Gary, this isn't healthy and what is this one below...Oh my God!"

Katie grabs both sketches and takes Gary by the arm and leads him around the corner, "What is this? Is this Julia? You are seriously drawing your son's girlfriend's behind? I swear everything is one step forward and two steps back with you! You were being such a gentleman all day and now this? What do you have to say for yourself?"

"Ugh, I have a photographic memory and I can't help it. I still remember how to paint you when you took a shower and used the toilet when we first got married."

Katie rips both sketches into pieces. "Gary, just because you can do something doesn't mean you always have to do it. I am calling you an Uber right now and telling everyone you weren't feeling up to staying and had to go!"

Gina and Claire each take Eric's arm both of them crying quietly as they ease him into bed. Gina prepares and gives Eric his nighttime injection. Eric's voice cracks, "Are you two mad at me? I don't want to be a baby here but could you two talk to me before I fall asleep."

Eric looks at both women and see tears and sweet demeanors. "How did ya lil chat goooo with yar garl?" Gina and Claire each take one of Eric's hands.

Eric starts to cry too. "Not good. She looks so distant and far away. I kept trying to focus on telling her how much I loved her and needed her back. But the more I kept talking to her...it was like I was thanking her in the past tense. I just kept thinking about her...heading into the lake and then darkness. She sacrificed herself so she wouldn't crash into others. I feel like I just said goodbye forever. I know the doctors think she is coming back, but I just have this sick feeling I am never going to speak to her again."
