The condominium village around the lake is largely worthless in their attempt aid the driver of pink Corvette. Most of the people closest to the scene were older people, who immediately called 911 when they heard the explosive splash in the water and the car sinking upside down. Emergency vehicles were already in route 30 seconds before the crash, unfortunately they wouldn't be there for another 7 minutes, and it would take them another minute to get to Julia who would be dead by the time they got there.

Eric is a good 350 yards away when he hears the splash. He peeks out the window out of curiosity but soon has a feeling of sick dread in his stomach as he sees the same flash of pink he saw in the woods. Eric grabs a homemade ax he hung above the doorway to the kitchen he made in a school project and breaks the large glass-plated window and jumps down two stories

He cracks his pelvis in three places but adrenaline keeps him running on all fours like a deranged caveman hunting his prey. He reaches the spot of the submersion in less than a minute and a half and swims 20 feet to the bottom of the merky lake. Eric musters all his strength to reserve heavy breaths and finds the corvettes window. The top was up and Eric uses the sharpest point of the ax and pushes with both legs, arms and all of his weight against the driver's side window.

He quickly releases the seatbelt and gently eases Julia out of the car pressing against the airbag. He immediately begins giving Julia small gentle puffs air reserves he anticipated she would need as he gently rises with her to the surface. Once he reaches the top he is exhausted and gasping for breath but finds the strength to keep giving Julia more puffs of air.

Eric feels Julia's neck and can make out a weak pulse, but he still can't feel her breath. He kicks and swims himself toward the grass and pulls Julia to shore, still giving her respiration. EMS arrives five minutes later and Eric passes out as they are running towards both of them. Paramedics can see Julia's has a badly broken body and a cracked and bloody skull, they immediately get her securely strapped into a head and neck board. Eric is assessed to be injured too although much less severely, but more EMS workers provide similar precautions.

Then swarms of condo perverts congregate around the scene asking if they can help. The EMS simply ask them to leave them a path to exit to the ambulance. Eric falls in and out of consciousness on the ambulance ride to the hospital. In order to keep him calm they reassure him he got to Julia in time and she was "in good shape".
