A few last wishes

Part 22

Eric is sulking at the kitchen table staring at his cell phone. Julia has called him at 10 am almost every day since graduation from her house phone. 11 am and still no call. She warned him this might happen, after all, if they can't plan a day where they share a day alone together, what's the point? Who knows maybe her father shut off his landline for good after his unauthorized dirty visit with his daughter.

Katie stretches and yawns as she rubs Eric's back as she is walking past him, "Hi baby, how's your pain this morning?"

Eric looks down at his phone still heartbroken, "Two, definitely a two."

"Well, two is fantastic, isn't it? You haven't been below 4 for the last 3 months now. This is such great news, what are you going to do today?"

"Probably, go back to bed and take a nap. Nothing to do anyway."

"Sweetie, didn't you sleep well last? You sound so gloomy."

"I got up after I slept about 8 hours, did some laundry, had some breakfast. Went back to bed got up again around 10."

Katie looks in the refrigerator, "By any chance did you let your father in? I remember making 5 large sandwiches."

"I'm sorry, Ma, I had them for breakfast. They were really good. I know Dad probably really appreciates you think of him and still do stuff like that even though you can't be together in the same house."

"Sweetheart, your father and I haven't lived together for fifteen years and everyone is happier for it. Tell me what's going on with you."

"Nothing, Ma...Nothing."

"Why don't you give, Julia a call? She will cheer you right up!"

"She usually calls me, but yesterday she told me she needed some days to herself. It was really great while it lasted, I guess."

Katie rolls her eyes, "Oh, Lord. That girl has been so generous with her time and has been so sweet to you. It isn't easy for a young girl to sacrifice every waking moment to a boy, she has a life outside of you. You know what you should be doing, right now? You should be planning a special day for her. Take my car, and credit card and buy the girl some flowers, write her a note telling her how important to you she is and you appreciate her."

Eric smiles and kisses his mom on the cheek, "You are actually 100% right. Thanks ma!"

Eric leaves, Katie goes through the fridge and starts making more sandwiches and the phone rings, "Hello, no he just left. He is actually feeling pretty ok today, his pain is down to a 2. Yes, it is so great. Gary, no, no, no, please no. You can come over but no. Update your portfolio? Good Lord, I am IN YOUR PORTFOLIO? No thank you. We will not be having sex and you should NOT bring over your paint supplies and you will not be drawing me naked...ever again as a matter a fact. Ok, ok, I will see you later."

Hank signs the paper work at the dealership as he stink eyes the car dealers oggling his pretty little girl, "Well, Julia, she's all yours. Called the insurance company you are all good to go. I'll meet you at the mall, and I can buy you lunch to celebrate." Hank kisses Julia and clinches his fist, and grinds his teeth as he walks her out signaling to the men, their time looking and speaking with Julia is ending.

Julia loves her pretty, pink Corvette. She is dying to set her phone up and call Eric and share all her big news, but she needs to drive carefully and then give full attention to her Daddy. Today is his special day.
