Mookie is sitting closest to the exam room door so I take him first. I tell him to have a seat on the exam table and we go over his medical history. With nothing of note that wasn’t already in his file. I did a quick check of his vital signs by placing an electronic cuff on his arm, pulse oximeter on his pointer finger, temperature under his armpit and observed his respiratory rate. With great vitals, 118/82, pulse 74, respiratory rate 16, 98% Spo2, and 98.5 temp. My MEPS also does an EKG on each applicant, we’re a pilot site to test the feasibility. I had him lay back on the table so I could place the stickers on his chest. I instructed him to breathe normally and relax while I captured the reading. I told him perfect, a normal sinus rhythm.

I then began my physical exam, starting with palpating his head and looking into his deep brown eyes, ears and up his nose with the otoscope. Mookie follows my finger with his eyes. I ask Mookie to stick out his tongue and say ahh while I examine his throat. I then don a glove and examine his gums and tongue, asking about his dental checkups and previous problems. He responds that he had his wisdom teeth out when he was 16 but never had a problem otherwise. I palpate Mookie’s neck and asked him to swallow. I listen to his chest and back, lightly grazing his nipples and having Mookie take several deep breaths. As I listened with my stethoscope I thought to myself he has a nice filled chest and back, with a handsome face as I was examining him. Definitely had zero problems cleaning up dating pool wise, as he was a very nice and personable guy, and we made small talk as I did my exam. I then had him lay back and palpate his chest and abdomen, grazing underneath his waistband and feeling his pubic area. He jumped when I did that as my hands were a bit cold and it was unexpected. I apologized and continued my exam by having him sit up and check his reflexes in his elbows, wrists, knees and ankles. He is apparently very ticklish as he yelled out when I scratched the soles of his feet. I also palpated his armpits too which caused him to also react strongly to being ticklish.

It then came to the fun part for me, and the first dreaded part for Mookie. I asked him to stand on the floor with his feet shoulder width apart and to step out of his shorts. Mookie stands up and follows instructions, exposing himself fully in front of a doctor for the first time, as his physicals were always pretty cursory in high school and college. Mookie said he was kinda nervous since his doctors back then just lifted and reached in his waistband and had him cough. I perform a head to toe skin exam to check for unusual moles, skin conditions and unresolved scars. I start my thorough exam by palpating his groin and having him turn his head to the left and cough three times with my fingers in his inguinal area to check for a hernia on each side. I took his circumcised penis in my hand and gave it a few tugs and squeezes, checking the glans for discharge, simultaneously giving him an erection almost instantly. I then moved to his testicles and demonstrated how to self exam for lumps and anything abnormal. I ask about his sexual health and partners, to which Mookie stated he had both girls and guys as partners, usually as the bottom with men; and always wore condoms. I then had him lean forward and touch his toes so I could check his spine, palpating all the way down to his butt crack on each vertebrae, and used a device to measure his spinal curvature. The most dreaded part for him and the favorite for me is the rectal exam. I told Mookie it would be quick, and with as little discomfort as possible. Mookie then bent over the exam table, standing on the platform, and spread his cheeks open. I started with an external exam and palpated his sphincter lightly. I then applied a generous squirt of lubricant to my index and middle fingers and told Mookie to count to 3. On three I inserted my pointer finger and then briefly pulled out and reinserted with the middle finger, palpating for any hemorrhoids or other abnormalities. I reach Mookie’s prostate and he moans pretty loud. I give it a really thorough check and he moans again and grunts. He whimpers that he is going to ejaculate. I get a sample cup for him and he provides a large semen sample, as I hear it hitting the cup while I finish the exam. He apparently enjoyed the exam and stated that it felt great to relieve the tension of the day. I tell Mookie he did great today, and he can put the shorts back on. He also passed everything, and he can go get dressed in the locker room and check out up front with his liaison. The shorts can be disposed of in the locker room trash. I told him I would see him for his final inspection before basic training and he grinned as he left.

I guide Mookie to the exam room door and bring in Kevin for his exam.
