Will was getting increasingly involved in a major project at his Silicon Valley company, so his wife Amy was spending more and more time with her friends from college. Most of her close friends had been Chinese as she was, but one exception was Susan who had been probably her closest companion, especially on personal matters. Susan had called Amy one weekday morning, said she had broken up with her current boyfriend, and could they please get together to talk about it. Amy quickly agreed and picked Susan up and drove them into San Francisco, where they shopped for awhile and then went to a Union Street bar for deep conversation. Around 5:30 Amy looked at her watch and said it's way too late, Will will be furious I'm not at home making dinner, so we have to go now. Susan said, yes but I better drive because your extra glass of wine won't pass any test. They raced for the car, got caught in rush hour traffic and didn't reach their house until well after 7 PM.

Will was waiting very impatiently, and as they walked in he yelled at Amy, where have you been? Susan tried to explain the entire sequence of events, but Will was having none of it.
