An odd and embarrassing Derm Exam

The Exam: The waiting room

I was scheduled for a Dermatology exam. The timing was good, because I had noticed a small rash on my genitals. Of course this would require me to be examined in that area which made me nervous and a little embarrassed, but also just a little excited by the prospect. I had never been to this office, so I wasn't familiar with the staff, but I knew that the doctor was a woman and that added to both the embarrassment and the anticipation.

Although I had never actually been examined by a female practitioner and the prospect was a little daunting, I had always wondered what it would be like and although I hate to admit it there was a certain thrill at the prospect.

I entered the waiting room to be greeted by an attractive young woman at the front desk. Her name tag said, Chelsea and she had her blonde hair pulled back in a ponytail. She greeted me in a friendly professional manner and handed me some paper work to fill out. I sat down and started writing. As I was filling out the forms the waiting room door opened and in walked a couple of young women who proceeded to walk up to the desk and speak with the receptionist.

I wasn't paying much attention but heard her tell them to have a seat and that she'd let the doctor know they were here. They sat across from me and I casually glanced at them. They looked like a couple of high school girls that were probably getting checked for acne or something, although both of them had flawless skin. One of them had black hair that hung loose and piercing blue eyes, while the other had red hair and freckles with bright green eyes. They were both looking over at me and smiling.

Now I'd like to think I'm an attractive guys, but at forty-five years old it had been a while since young women had flirted with me. I finished my forms and handed them back to Chelsea. When I returned to my seat the girls were still looking at me, so I said hello.

The dark hair girl quickly responded,

"Hi. Are you a patient?"

I thought this an odd question, especially since she seemed quite interested in my answer.

"Yes, this is my first time here. How's the doctor?" I whispered, "I always get a little nervous with a new doctor."

"Oh, This is our first time too," she responded, "But we're not patients, we're students here doing a rotation."

I must have looked a little confused, because the red haired girl went on to explain...

"We're enrolled in our high school special opportunity program for students going into nursing school. It's only for seniors who are at least eighteen years old. We get to shadow doctors in their practice. It's a great chance to learn more about what we will be doing in nursing school."

I guess the shocked expression on my face must have seemed amusing to the two girls, because they they turned to glance at each other and I could swear that they were trying not to laugh.

The Dark haired girl chimed in,

"It's nice to meet you, my name is Kathy and this is Becky."

I stammered a awkward response saying I was Mr. Ryan, then realizing how lame that sounded I said,

"Um ah, I'm Justin."

At that moment Chelsea said,

"Girls, the doctor is ready for you now."

As they walked away Kathy looked back and gave me a Cheshire Cat smile.....
