The Sports Examination

Change of perspective: Part 1 - Introduction

Okay, I'll admit I have lesbian tendencies, but I would still classify myself as straight. However, these same-gender tendencies have become stronger since I started my new job as a senior medical assistant last year. There I found that working with the resident family doctor strengthened these tendencies.

My boss, Dr. Alexander Merkle, is a general practitioner and runs a well-respected small medical practice in a quiet residential area. His patient list, which has continued to grow over the years, ranges from young to old. In addition to two receptionists, he has also needed a senior medical assistant for a year to control and coordinate the practice, which is how I got my job. In addition to the normal patients who come to Dr. Merkle, he also carries out check-ups for schools and companies, as well as the classic statutory routine check-ups. As I've found out over the last few months, I'm not the only one who has certain ulterior motives about the examinations that Dr. Merkle carries out every day, but he does too. Since we also often do something together privately, we found out about each other's tricks. So he knows about my inclinations and I in turn about his. At first I felt uncomfortable and didn't know how to deal with this situation, but over time I learned that working with him had a certain appeal. And so we sweeten each other's everyday life ever since. Nevertheless, we always remain serious towards our patients and keep our little secret to ourselves. And so the following experience came about recently:

On a late Tuesday afternoon, a sports medical examination of an 18-year-old high school student was scheduled for 5 p.m., who needed a medical certificate for the school in order to be able to take part in a team sport there. Her name was Belinda Meyer. Of course, that immediately aroused my interest and also that of Dr. Merkle. He hadn't fully examined a young female patient for a about two weeks and I knew how much he loved doing it. In contrast to me, however, physical examinations of young male patients did not appeal to him at all. I had much more fun there than he did. That's why I let him know right away in the morning that a young lady would be expecting us today for a sports examination.

"Doctor? I just saw that we still have a sports examination scheduled for 5 p.m. today.”, I explained to him, whereupon he looked at me with wide, expectant eyes.

"Do we have a female patient, Ms. Inghofer?"

"Yes, exactly. I suspect a student from the local high school here.”

"Excellent!", my boss was visibly pleased.

“Also, I couldn't find any medical records on her. So she appears to be a new patient.”

"You know what that means, Ms. Inghofer.", he looked at me with his familiar look.

"Of course!", I replied, nodding at him.

“I think that a more detailed examination will be useful here. Don't you agree?"

"Yes, of course Doctor.", I smiled at him and already knew that we will have fun again this afternoon.

Although Dr. Merkle and I used to have a good and intimate working relationship with each other, so far we keep a certain distance from each other. I think this helps ensure that we don't run the risk of revealing our little secret. Both to the patients and to our two colleagues too.
