Luke Danes had been a father for several years now, and he liked to think he'd gotten pretty good at it. Well, reasonably good. He knew his daughter's favorite breakfast, remembered that she hated mushrooms, and had learned not to call her before nine on weekends unless there was an emergency. He'd survived high school science fairs, college applications, teenage mood swings, and the terrifying experience of teaching April to drive.
